Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
6 July 2011
Excerpt: Lord of the Rings: The Third Age is an awkwardly slavish retelling of the movie trilogy by necessity. During development, the license for the books was reportedly unavailable, so the developers of this traditional turn-based RPG were forced to follow the familiar trajectory of the films instead of the expansive lore of author J.R.R. Tolkien.
Excerpt: I really don't know why I do it. I like to consider myself a rational man, a man of logic and common sense and good hygiene, and yet, every time I discover a new Lord of the Rings-themed RPG, I simply have to pick it up and play it no matter how bad the last one I played was. Really, considering what I've gone through in the past , it's a miracle that I bothered to give The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age a chance at all, but somehow, through the twin magicks of big...
Conclusion: Some say you must respect the past to appreciate the future. I would say this is totally the case with the Guilty Gear franchise. It may not be evident to all, but gameplay can be exquisite without using the latest graphical techniques; in some ways, less reliance on fresh visual flair may help out the quality of the action. Guilty Gear X2 #Reload is what the hardcore fighter genre is all about, and at a nifty price.
Excerpt: With Peter Jackson's vision of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy finished, millions of us have been left feeling a somewhat empty without any fresh tales of Middle-Earth and its inhabitants. But don't stress too much, since EA's brand new Lord of the Rings epic, The Third Age, should fill the void of any Middle-Earth fan.
Excerpt: Editor's note: I played this game on the Xbox, but it has also been released on PlayStation 2 and Nintendo's GameCube. As far as I am aware, there are no differences in story or gameplay between the three versions, only technical differences in graphic and sound quality, as well as button configuration to accommodate the different controllers for each console.
Conclusion: It must have something going for it though as I was able to sit for 6+ hours solid, progressing and building up my characters. This was actually more to do with wanting to see where the story goes and if you do encounter the Fellowship at all. It was at that 6 hour point that I found the answer to that question, had a meeting with Gandalf and died in battle. It took three attempts to win.
Excerpt: "The Lord Of The Rings: The Third Age on konsoleille suunnattu roolipeli, Taru Sormusten Herrasta -elokuvien hengessä. Tunnelmaltaan nappiin osunut tulkinta, pelillisesti ihan kelpo mättöä pienempinä annoksina nautittuna. Elokuvien faneille kyseessä saattaa ehkä olla jonkinasteinen pakko-ostos.
