Summary: Years in the making now, Jade Empire, the epic RPG from BioWare has been released on the Xbox. The time and effort put into this game truly show, creating one of the most immersive and best rpgs, even Xbox titles available. This game takes you back into the era of the Jade Empire and creates a very immersive, fun and involving experience. Jade Empire was an epic in the making, and that really shows in this game.
Excerpt: places you in the role of a student in a small rural town in a fictitious empire based on Chinese Mythology. Strong themes such as the "Journey to the West" and the heavens are prevalent throughout the story. You start out in a small village with small opponents and eventually are destined to face Death's Hand, the Emperor's right hand. Of course, it wouldn't be a Bioware RPG without the "twist" to the story.
Excerpt: Hot on the heels of the much celebrated Knights of the Old Republic , Bioware has taken their successful RPG formula and used it as the core for a story-heavy RPG of a different flavor. The world of Jade Empire is a fictional land patterned after the mythology of the ancient orient. In it, your main character starts out as a promising student off in the far flung corner of the empire.
Pros: Action-based combat, Great audio and graphics, Good and bad paths allow for replay, Deep story
Conclusion: As much as I’ve complained, I really enjoyed Jade Empire’s plotline and quests, though this leads me to complain about the game’s length. For a game that feels like it should be epic, it’s over way too soon. I had so many characters left to try out and so many fighting styles left unused. There are only three cities and at most a dozen locations.
Excerpt: So here's the picture. Let's imagine that you own an XBox and are a bit of an RPG fan - both fair assumptions if you should happen to be reading this. You loved the Knights of the Old Republic games, but you tend to prefer something a bit medieval for your playing pleasure; well, fear not! Jade Empire is a decidedly eastern affair from BioWare in something of a Knights style but with a more action-oriented battle system.
Excerpt: There are times when you play a game and know that you're playing something just that little bit special. Typically, it's around 2am in the morning when you have work the next day, and the penny drops that you really have to stop and get some sleep. This is the feeling Jade Empire gives me every time I play it. It's very, very hard to put down.
Summary: Jade Empire is a great basis for any future titles BioWare have planned for the franchise. It could do with some beefing up of the RPG elements and there are some technical issues that could be fixed but overall Jade Empire offers an Action-RPG experience that you'll be hard up finding elsewhere.
Summary: It would be easy to say that Jade Empire is just “KOTOR” in ancient China with stripped down mechanics and a more action-oriented combat system. The sad fact is, if I had to describe the game to someone in one sentence that is what I would have to say. Despite the game’s many shortcomings though, it is still a very entertaining title that I would definitely recommend to anybody who are into role-playing titles, or anyone who wants to know what American role-playing...
Excerpt: It’s no secret that games often imitate the trends and pre-occupations of the better established film industry. Just as Hollywood grows obsessed - and bored just as quickly - of one setting or another, the games industry has its own fads, and these often take their cue from the silver screen.
