The Outfit Review
11 March 2010
Conclusion: The vehicle controls are a sticking point. Many of the maps in The Outfit are big, so vehicles are the main means of transportation. It’s so easy to zig in vehicles when you meant to zag - a major no-no with enemy A.I. this tough. The rest of The Outfit is a superfine romp that any action gamer should experience. There are high production values plastered throughout, and months of gameplay if all modes are utilized to their fullest.
Conclusion: four young wizards in the tourney have to square off against a fire-breathing dragon, dive into the icy Black Lake on a search-and-rescue mission, and traverse through a dangerous maze. It all culminates in a final duel against Lord Voldemort, the requisite bad guy. You can play as Harry, Ron and Hermione or all three in the very good co-op mode if you have two friends or family willing to partake in some Harry Potter gaming.
Excerpt: As Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger enter their fourth year at Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft, new challenges await them, both "professional" and personal. The Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire video game sticks strictly to the adventure aspects of the story, never touching upon the sticky relationship drama that makes up key subplots in the novel and the film.
Pros: Three-player cooperative play, Card system of upgrades adds depth, Triwizard Tournament levels mix up the gameplay style
Cons: Relies a little too much on replaying levels, Reward for finishing a collection quest isn't always clear, Could have leveraged more media from the film
Conclusion: Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire is, like I have said several times through this review, a capable but average action adventure game that could have been a lot better than the final product. If you are a huge Harry Potter fan, you will still find it neat to play as the trio of characters, but there just isn’t enough in this game to warrant this as anything more than a rental.
Conclusion: In both games you can obtain new skills and much more powerful attacks based on points earned through your attack rating, so the better you are at the game, the more quickly you become a powerful wizard. The more powerful the spell, the more the controller will vibrate in your hand – you can feel every movement of the wand.
Pros: Loads of spells, Smart graphics and excellent likenesses, Co-op mode is fun
Cons: A bit too linear, Some sluggish controls, No LOTR-style movie clips or extras, Where’s the Xbox Live co-op mode?
Summary: Magie gegen deftige Bibelkost. And the winner is . . .
