Excerpt: Put your armour on, load up your weapon, and get ready for a 10-12hr blast of adrenaline. Halo: Combat evolved is a fast paced, intense battle based first person shooter that will keep you on your toes at all times.
Summary: Kudos to the programming brain trust over at Westlake Interactive for pouring their hearts and souls into this title. Not only is the port rock-solid, but their work on bringing pixel and vertex shading, as well as the proprietary Windows APIs used for the user interface and networking code, was monumental.
Excerpt: Halo, was voted game of the year in 2001 voted by a numerous amount of game sites and magazines such as IGN, Gamestop, EGM, Microsoft (of course they did) and Gamepro, and is in my opinion the greatest first person shooter around today. With an original story line and amazing graphics, Halo blew up the charts selling over 2 million games so far.
Excerpt: Halo is a great game on a system lacking many truly remarkable games. As the years go by, games innovate less and less and many hardcore gamers would be quick to tell you it is a sign that the Golden Age is over and that all “killer aps” have already been released. However, Bungie set up to prove that preconception not true. Originally set for a PC release, Microsoft was quick to push Bungie to switch to Xbox to have a good first person shooter for launch time.
Excerpt: > Halo is one of the marquee launch titles for Microsoft Xbox. As the first game I owned for the Xbox, I would have to say it's the best I've seen. For Microsoft's first game console this is the kind of game that will sell systems and let the Xbox have a place in console history.
Conclusion: Halo should be given away with the console (and frequently is), and is a true 'system seller', or 'killer app' - Proof positive of the texture handling & polygon pushing capabilities of the Xbox, and also that maybe MS do know what they're doing in the games biz - Even with the likes of Half Life 2, Doom and Far Cry on the way to Xbox, realistically only Halo 2 is likely to replace Halo in our affections… OK, the gushing praise is almost over, as is my easiest review of...
Pros: Great story., Superb graphics and animation., Perfectly balanced gameplay with 4 difficulty settings., The best multiplayer options on a console.
Cons: It ends., Halo 2 isn't out for ages., It makes all other Xbox FPS look poor., No Xbox Live play., There's so much going on sometimes that the frame rate drops.
