Genma Onimusha Reader Review - 7.1

CaptainChris, IGN Entertainment
18 August 2005
  • Conclusion: Genma Onimusha is a game in which you control a samurai. And samurai are seriously cool. They carry a great big katana sword. And they run about in socks and had shoes made out of flat bits of wood. How hard is that? I won't repeat what other reviewers have said; instead, I'll focus on the observations that shaped my opinion of the game. Firstly, it looks like a PS1 game with a few twinkly effects thrown in to spice it up.

  • Excerpt: Capcom's Onimusha series has so far seen three entries and one spin-off on the PlayStation 2, but not too long after the console's release, the Xbox was treated to an upgraded form of the original Onimusha Warlords, by the name of Genma Onimusha. The game is a survival horror of sorts, except set in 1560 Japan.

Great game

  • Excerpt: "...remake of the game however Genma Onimusha promises much more than simply that. Utilising the power of the Xbox hardware the environments including trees, lighting, buildings and characters look much more detailed than they did back on the Playstation 2 version and gives the game a more cinematic feel to it. The Dolby Surrond sound feature is also complimented which enables the player to feel like they are truly in a world where power hungry warlords ...

In this game you are a samurai called Samonsuke who is set out on a mission to retreive Princess Yuki. You venture though many lands fighting evil demons and absorbing their souls to power up your weapons and magic spells to make them even stronger. As you progress ...

Resident Evil meets Legacy of Kain

Ibrahim "Devil Horns", amazon.co.uk
3 March 2004
  • Summary: This game has a distinct resident evil feel but lets you control the game in a much more hack'n'slash way (Legacy of Kain) as opposed to stratigic saves and health boosts (resident evil). The game is a very enjoyable blend and vert atmospheric, if you want a game with lots of charm and tension this is for you, if you want full on brain teasers like resi look elsewhere, if you can't fight you can't progress. Finally I must say that £35 is a rip-off, buy this game..

Too fun brutal game

  • Excerpt: "Genma Onimusha is an excellent game. They did a superb job. I don't think it was an exact port from PS2 to X-box. What I think is they added a few levels to the X-box game and the playability on the X-box is much much much harder..Geez, level one was so hard that I had to suck up a lot of souls in this game to survive. The plot in GENMA ONIMUSHA is that people are disappearing and the noble Princess Yuki fears for her future. One lone swordsman, Samanosuke(Your ...
