Excerpt: I'm sure we all remember those trips to the arcade and the hours spent playing Gauntlet Legends. Now Midway has made a port of one of the most fun multiplayer games around. Gauntlet: Dark Legacy is all that you could ask for and more in a Gauntlet port, but it's still a port. The Gauntlet series seems to lose something once it hits the console.
Excerpt: And that’s the problem with Gauntlet: Dark Legacy. There’s a certain charm to some mindless ‘kill ‘em all’ gameplay, especially when there’s up to four players doing it at the same time on-screen. But the problem is too much of a good thing. It’s rare when I complain that a game is too long: Dark Legacy sports an impressive amount of levels and character types, but the variety is only impressive at first glance.
Conclusion: Gauntlet: Dark Legacy is a nostalgia game, best suited to fans of Gauntlet or those looking for a simple button-mashing action-rpg. If you can look past the dated graphics and 80's quality sound and music though, Dark Legacy is an entertaining experience that is at the very least worth a weekend rental.
Pros: it's a fun, mindless, hack'n'slash distraction, lots of powerups, excellent variety of levels, more fun to be had in multiplayer
Cons: very basic audio and repetitive music, only one play mode for single and multiplayer, visually it is very dated
