Excerpt: Fifa 2004 is probably out by the time you read this, so I guess this is a just a relieved little send off for me, and a note for those who were thinking of getting it when it goes on sale. Well, if you were going to buy it, DONT. If you dont mind seeing older squads, try finding a copy of 2002, or even 2001. There is one vey important reason for this. In the previous incarnations, they player you were controlling was highlited by a circle around his feet.
Summary: The first thing i noticed about this latest instalment to the ever so increasingly popular Fifa series is that graphics are fantastic. However, once i started playing my views somewhat evaluated into a negative form of thinking towards the game. Secondly i noticed that the more talented players in real life, such as Ryan Giggs were almost designed to be equal to the lesser type players such as Garry Breen.
Summary: The graphics on fifa 2003 are very good. The new scoreable free kick scenario adds an intersting dimension to the game, thats about it for the good stuff. The bad stuff, which is most of it, is the same tired old rubbish we have seen so many times before. The easy levels are far to easy to hold anyones interest for long, after all winning 8-0 all the time is a bit boring after a while.
Summary: You would think that with the gravity of the FIFA license this game would be something special. Indeed with the capabilites of the Xbox, the limitations of previous FIFA games on earlier consoles could be overcome spectacularly. Unfortunately not. The flaws to this game are many and varied. The most frustrating being that for some reason it is impossible to score directly from a corner. Indeed to score a headed goal from a cross in open play is extremeley difficult.
The most contrived, authentic football experience.

Summary: OK, so after you get over the fact that the graphics are superb, and you've marvelled at the near perfect faces of famous players you'll be wanting to play a game of football. Granted, the new ball physics model is very good and the players now look like they're dribbling propery. But dribbling in itself is made extremly difficult with the continuing feature of FIFA games that is Auto Tackle. Get in the same postcode as a defender and you will immediatly lose the ball.
