Conclusion: Far Cry Instincts is one of the better games for the Xbox that have been adapted in some form from an earlier PC title. While not perfect, Far Cry Instincts does provide hours of campaign gameplay, a decent multiplayer mode, and enough variance to keep one’s interest until the Xbox 360 launch. I’m expecting Far Cry Instincts to receive lots of love in the online communities even though it’s a “PC” title, and the strong A.I. guarantees groupies for the Campaign action.
Excerpt: Jack Carver is having a bit of a rubbish day. One minute, he’s on a boat with photographer Val Cortez on a journalistic trip to the reef just off the remote Jacutan Islands, the next, Cortez has done a runner with his jet ski, and a fully decked out military chopper is igniting fuel (with the help of a couple of hundred bullets) on his boat, and he’s forced to jump ship. And so it begins. You take control of Carver in a typical FPS setup, where its you against the world.
Excerpt: As the addition of the word “Instincts” to the title implies, Far Cry Instincts is not the same game that was released on PCs last year. The word “Instincts” is more than just something used to differentiate versions of the game, though; it refers to a fundamental change you’ll go through during the game as you go back to nature, so to speak. But before I get into that let’s take a look at how the biggest disaster to hit a tourist junket since the wreck of the S.S.
Excerpt: When I first picked up Farcry for the PC I was blown away. The graphics are the best I've ever seen on a shooter— very rich and powerful. I can remember telling my friends that I hoped it would be ported over to the X-BOX. Many an argument was based upon whether or not the game could be successfully ported over.
Summary: Based on the popular PC shooter but
revamped for the Xbox, Ubisoft's Far Cry Instincts features a deeper storyline,
a newly robust map editor, and other additional features. Far Cry Instincts
immediately impresses with its beautiful island environments, smooth frame rate,
intuitive controls, and a riveting storyline. The gameplay mixes stealth and FPS
action, creating a tense, visceral experience throughout.
Excerpt: When Ubisoft announced last year that it was going to port its hit PC first-person shooter Far Cry to the Xbox, the news generated a lot of skepticism. After all, Far Cry wasn't just one of the best PC shooters of 2004; it was also a technological marvel that pushed PC graphics to the limits. How could it possibly work on the Xbox?
Pros: Stunning graphics, Excellent combination of stealth and action, Huge game with huge levels, Strong multiplayer gameplay, Did we mention the graphics?
Cons: Can be brutally tough at times, Vehicles feel a bit superfluous
Summary: "This is the best and worst graphically executed game. Let's start with the great. Water. Best water graphics I have ever seen in a shooter. Be it a dark brown or green swampy map, or a bright beach scene with clear blue waters, it's as real as it gets. " "Imagine yourself in a sniper tower looking across the land to find oak trees lined up in the middle of the sky.
Pros: Water graphics, Single Button Friends Access, Unlimited map downloads
Cons: Poor graphics in large custom maps, Linear, Limited map editor tools
Conclusion: Far Cry: Instincts from Ubisoft and Crytek should not be over looked. Even if you didn't know it this is the shooter you've been waiting for. I highly suggest this game for any fans of first person shooters you will love the jungle exploration, stealth sneaking, vehicle driving, guns blazing action in Far Cry. Pick this sucka up!
