Fable

  • Excerpt: RPGs are typically defined by their stories. A great RPG needs a great and epic story -- just look at Knights of the Old Republic, Chrono Trigger, or Kingdom Hearts. Fable''''s story is serviceable, but not extraordinary, which is really what keeps it from the upper-echelon of role-playing games. A simple tale of revenge, you play the role of a young boy whose village is raided by bandits.

  • Excerpt: “Hello Arseface!” was the greeting that met my arrival in a nearby village, the locals applauding and bellowing “Hooray!” What did my character do to receive such acclaim’ Slay a few enemies, perform a couple of good deeds and suddenly, I’m slowly becoming renowned around Albion for being an all-round nice guy – not for much longer though. Upon my arrival, I’m forced to relinquish my weapons.

  • Excerpt: Da Introduction Welcome to Hypeology 101. Today's lesson is simple, children; do not fall for the hype. Gamers everywhere hyped themselves up for Fable and let themselves fall for empty promises and hopeful wishes made by the game's father, Peter Molyneux. People claim that Fable is a shadow of it's former self, Project Ego, the game's previous title.

  • Summary: Many people complain about the fact that the Xbox does not have many rpgs available. Fable though changes that. Fable is a free flowing rpg that allows you to do what you want when you want. You don’t have to follow the exact story of the game, but can stray from the path and wreak havoc and destruction, or be a peace-loving citizen of the world. You make the choices that shape your destiny.

The Most Favorable Fable

GIN
8 November 2004
  • Excerpt: Peter Molyneux's Fable has been a long time coming. First announced as Project Ego back in 2001, it was designed to be the most elaborate role playing title for the Xbox. Now three years have passed and Fable is available on store shelves, and for someone who doesn't spend a lot of time playing role players, I will admit that it is both elaborate and limited at the same time.

  • Summary: I'm a little hero short and stout. Here is my story starting out. When you make me kill people and have them shout, tip the redemption meter by helping them out.
