Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Review

IGN Entertainment
11 March 2010
  • Conclusion: As long as you can live with the lower-than-normal-Xbox-quality graphics (you will, as long as you understand why they are what they are), Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is a must experience, must buy title for the Xbox. Even if you’ve played the PS2 version, do yourself a favor and play Grand Theft AutoL San Andreas on the Xbox- it is different enough in a good way to warrant the time investment and purchase.

Doom 3

Xbox Evolved
20 February 2006
  • Summary: Doom 3 is a scary romp into the dark trenches of the mind that is ironically using a formula used for games of the same name for the past fifteen years. Add in fantastic visuals, glorious sound, and a little bit of multiplayer and you have a pretty scary and solid experience that everyone should at least give a try.
  • Pros: The visuals and audio are top-notch
  • Cons: There isn't really much to the gameplay.

Doom 3

Into Liquid Sky
23 January 2006
  • Excerpt: “I’m a space marine. I’m the best of the soldiers out there. Yet I literally just shat my pants when a demon jumped in front of me!” This, my friends, is just one of the thoughts that will probably cross your mind while playing through Id's new xbox game Doom 3 , and there is plenty more where that came from. Doom 3 takes place on Mars and is basically a retelling of the first Doom .
  • Pros: Graphics, Sound, Atmosphere, Scare Factor
  • Cons: Game play grows tiresome, Battle modes could have more, No offline split screen battle mode

  • Excerpt: Now, granted, compared to modern PCs with 3.6 plus GHz CPUs and video cards with 256 MB of RAM on them, the Xbox is pretty old news, technology wise. However, Vicarious Visions, with their port of id’s PC counterpart, have shown that with the correct optimization, older hardware (in PC terms) can be worked in ways people might have thought impossible.

  • Excerpt: Doom 3, love it or hate it, brought with it a new dimension to the series and a new benchmark in graphics. The PC version was a straight up, linear, slaughter-fest. The XBox version is boasting co-op multiplayer over LIVE, so how does this Doom stack up? Laurie has the scoop.

Doom 3 Xbox Review

Game Info Wire
30 April 2005
  • Excerpt: You won't find an intricate story here, nor will the gameplay blaze any new ground, but "Doom 3" is well-grounded in the old-school fundamentals of the shooter genre, and what it does it does very, very well.

  • Excerpt: With the rise of "Halo" and other titles of the like in recent years, the first person shooter genre has gotten an even greater level of interest from gamers. The latest big-name title happens to be a familiar name from a legendary FPS series: "Doom". The third installment is essentially an "updated" version of the core game.

Review: Doom 3 - Xbox

Lawrence.com
15 April 2005
  • Excerpt: When Doom 3 debuted on the PC months ago, critics fell over themselves, salivating on their keyboards at the stunning visuals, possessed to forgive degenerate gameplay and give Doom 3 some insanely high marks. Looks like we have a similar problem with the Xbox release for a different reason. The port is stunningly accurate with an amazing amount of detail still packed into lesser hardware.
