Summary: Let me start by saying this is a great game that has improved vastly from Colin McRae Rally 2. The driving is smoother, the roads are bumpier and the engine noises louder and more realistic. There is just one floor, you can only be Colin Mcrae which may not sound bad at first but imagine doing four years as just colin in a ford focus and not being able to use any of the other cars in the rallys. This is a real shame and proves to be the games major flaw.
Summary: The graphics are amazing, the cars are modelled superbly with reflections, realistic damage etc. If you have a sadistic streak you can really punish the car, wheels, bonnet, doors, lights all get damaged or come off completely! However the game is seriously flawed. The car physics are awful, there is a central pivotal point as a result the car is very twitchy and it is very difficult to control slides, which in a rally game is obviously key.
Summary: Awsome really is the only way to describe this game. The graphics are amazing (apart from the 2-D spectators) and the handling/general car feel so good that you really will cringe when you "loose it!" This will also cause your car to pick up some very realistic damage! It took a while to get used to but now I've had the game for a couple of months, I just love the accuracy.
Summary: All 3 of the Colin McRae series have been excellent games. The latest is no exception, but it could have been made even better. Car handling is excellent and the damage modelling is superb - it is great to see some realistic damage following a high-speed roll! It is frustrating however that there is no scope to set up your vehicle unless playing in "championship" mode and you cannot compete over a whole rally in multiplayer mode.
Summary: This game is great, the graphics are good with the car model in particular being excellent. The handling is well done and makes the game more immersive than other titles. The sound is good although the ability to play your own tracks (like PGR) would have been better. Also the codriver's voice comes through the left channel when the replays show him sitting on the right which seems odd.
Summary: playability/gameplay: well, this game automatically gets 5 stars for playability and gameplay. Quite simply, it has the best physics around (and damn right, the colin mcrae team worked with ford engineering team!). graphics: The car details, amazing... the landscapes (for the majority of countries), very detailed (except sweden!)... sound: decent engine sound, and it needs to be so you know when to change gear, etc. all in all...
Summary: I agree with some of the other reviews that state dissapointment with this game. The graphics although good are rather PS2 like with horrible texturing and cardboard like landscapes. With the Xbox you expect much better. The limitation of one car is not good (especially if you hate Fords), and not being able to race against others is poor. Stick with Rallisport Challenge for now!
Summary: I hired rallisport challenge 3 times as it was one of my fav games, but couldnt afford to buy it. when colin mcrae arrived on the xbox shelf at my video shop, i had it home within minutes expecting a big show. the opening and setup of the game looked great, it wasnt untill i got out on the race track that i felt let down and disapointed. its not a bad game, but compared to rallisport it stinks. RS has swaying lifelike trees and bushes...CM doesnt.
Summary: 1. Graphics = Very impressive, from the car right through to the great rain effects on the front screen on the interior view 2. Tracks = Good variety in both types of courses offered and obviously the variety of weather conditions you would expect 3. Gameplay = Great, even though you are racing alone, either trying to beat the car in fronts time or setting the fastest time if you are the first car keeps you playing and playing and playing.
