Circus Maximus Reader Review - 7.2

  • Conclusion: Kind of fun, kind of different, kind of weird. A fighting racing game with two players to control using chariots in ancient rome, well I liked it. It is definitely different than anything else out there, the graphics are a little soft and the audio has a few weak points but the enjoyment factor is high due mostly to the unique content.

  • Excerpt: Having had an Xbox for a long while and the amount of new and improved games running slim for the time being, I decided to go down to my local Game store and blow some cash. 3for2 offer? Well what better way than to waste my time with three games instead of two. I bought Mortal Kombat : Deadly Alliance, and Dungeons and Dragons : Heroes. As i pay nothing for the third game i thought 'what the heck' and picked up the lamest game i could see. Enter.. Circus Maximus.

thundering hooves and race-track thugs!

  • Summary: This is a great game, and anybody with an interest in the Romans will love it. Its perhaps not for people into high-tech racing games - this is so different! You control a chariot and a fighter - in other words, you race against other characters with one side of the controller and fight with a sword using the other! This is quite tricky at first, but when you get used to it, this game is very addictive - and funny too!

Ben Hur?...Almost, but not quite.

  • Summary: Actually competing in a deadly chariot race is an innovative and intriguing concept for a videogame, and a brave decision by the publishers (it would have been so much easier to make this another driving game). The graphics are crisp and clean (although one gets the feeling that the X-Box's true capabilities are not being fully employed), whilst the detailed scenery flitting by creates a sensation of speed and excitement.
