Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth Review

IGN Entertainment
9 February 2008
  • Conclusion: I hate to dish too much on the game’s story, as it does have an evolving plot that players will dig, but after playing through Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth , what stood out the most was that it truly feels like this game takes place in its own world of characters and creatures.

The joy of unspeakable horror.

  • Conclusion: It's also one of the most compelling. Call of Cthulhu shows that the first-person perspective doesn't always have to pack an uzi, and can even be the perfect view for players interested in a more cerebral challenge. Its dated look and absurd difficulty will probably consign it to mere cult status, but perhaps that's really where a game based on Lovecraft belongs.
  • Pros: True to the source, Terrifying chase scenes, Excellent atmosphere, Harder than godless hell
  • Cons: Archaic character models, Some glitches

  • Excerpt: What any potential player should know is that Cthulhu delivers a gameplay style in which the pacing and presentation are more closely related to old school adventure gaming than today’s twitchy finger standards. For some this can be the main reason to avoid the game, and for others a full-bore reason to recommend it.

  • Conclusion: It may not have the productions of Resident Evil, but Call of Cthulhu is easily one of the scariest video games ever made. It's also a great story full of mystery, intrigue, and a few twists and turns you won't see coming!

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

Thunderbolt Games
11 November 2005
  • Excerpt: Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth doesn’t even try to have a light atmosphere. The game starts out in a dilapidated mental hospital with an inmate trying to hang himself, and it continues with grisly murders, ancient rituals, and bizarre cults. The mood is effectively dark and there is always a sense of danger, but it’s just too bad the gameplay doesn’t shine like the atmosphere does.

  • Conclusion: Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth is one eerie game, which provides a well rounded gaming experience. If you like suspenseful plots, dark forbidding mysteries, and adventures into the dark side this is for you. Call of Cthulhu is definitely not like most Xbox games and if you are looking for something different, here it is.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

Gamecell
23 November 2006
  • Conclusion: I enjoyed playing through Call of Cthulhu, it’s an interesting story and it’s told really well, and you want to keep playing to find out what happens next. It’s a genuinely scary game to play, and really will make you jump a lot in places – always a good sign of a good survival horror game. If you’re into the genre, and you haven’t yet got an Xbox360 and Condemned, then I recommend picking this one up.
  • Pros: Interesting and well-delivered story, Health and sanity system, Excellent atmosphere
  • Cons: Long load times, Occasionally too dark

Call Of Cthulhu: Dark Corners Of The Earth

gamereality.org
18 December 2013
  • Excerpt: "Call Of Cthulhu: Dark Corners Of The Earth mielenkiintoisen sekavalla ja pelottavalla tarinalla varustettu, paikoitellen hyytävätunnelmainen kauhupeli, jota särkee ainoastaan paikoitellen pelin epätasainen tekoäly. Suositellaan kaikille kauhupelifaneille, sillä kyseessä on helposti yksi parhaimmista kauhupeleistä koskaan, sekä samalla Xboxin paras kauhupeli.
  • Pros: + Juoni, + Audiovisuaalisesti varsin toimiva paketti, + Paikoitellen hyytävä tunnelma..
  • Cons: - ..Jota valitettavasti särkee epätasainen tekoäly, - Joidenkin kohtausten toisto
