Burnout 2: Point of Impact Reader Review - 7.7

Conclusion: Burnout 2 has been out for six months on the PS2 and it has finally arrived on the Xbox. In this review, I am going to start of with some negative comments. This is intentional so that I could close on the positive note that "Burnout 2" deserves. Despite the Xbox exclusive "Developers Cut" moniker on the package, the extras are mostly superficial. 480P support is mute because the textures are low resolution and all the backgrounds are full of jaggies.
Excerpt: If you haven't heard about the Burnout franchise, where have you been? Burnout 2 is the second in the series, now surpassed by two console games and the PSP handheld version, but it's still worth a look. Firstly, theres only one way of describing Burnout 2. Its fast, most pant-wettingly fast, it's faster than a speeding jet tied to a huge rocket. Get the picture? In fact, Burnout 2 is right to sell itself on being this fast because it is such a great experience.
Pros: Fast, lovely crashes, cheap as chips
Cons: old compared to the newer games in the series
Excerpt: I love this game. Most of the games i get for my play station 2, I keep them a while and then when ive had enough of them i trade them in.For me burnout 2 is a great game and is one that i will keep for good, And i dont mean in the cupboard or on a shelf because this game goes on forever ,You win one of three medals for eveything you do if your lucky. You can change make and colour of your car as and when you like, You can go through a full tourniment or just a single...
Excerpt: I'm a big fan of racing games, so Burnout 2 isn't alone on my shelf. But by doing this review, I'll attempt to answer the question my wife asked when I bought the game - "Why do you need another racing game?" Well, it's simple really. All my racing games offer something different. At one end, we have the hardcore simulation games, like Colin McRae Rally 4. And then at the other end, we have Burnout 2. Burnout 2 is an arcade racer through and through.
Excerpt: Burnout 2 is such a good driving game. It improves vastly on the slow, limited original. Whilst the original contained a very small amount of tracks, Burnout 2 is packed with a variety of terrains. Again, whilst the original only had about 10 vehicles, this one has 30 including many that can be unlocked. What's more the graphics are gorgeous.
Pros: Smash Smash Smash Vroom What more can you ask out of a driving game?
Summary: Of all the games I have for the Xbox, this is the one that sits in the drive for the longest. It is fantastically addictive, easy to play (although not so easy as to make it boring). The cars are well modelled and great fun to drive. I used to think Project Gotham was a great arcade racer until I played Burnout. The concept is simple and well executed. Drive dangerously in order to win burnout points in order to drive dangerously at a greater speed... simple!
Summary: When you put burnout 2 into you're machine and wait while the acclaim logo passes across you're you think, 'I hope this will be a good game,' and then the rock music starts and you know that this is going to be good. Then you do the tests at the beggining with the anticipation building up and up until you're about to explode. Then when you have passed the stupidly easy tests.
Excerpt: Well to start its better than the first no doubt about that. The crashes are better, the graphics are better, the cars are better, everything is better. What i like about the game most is the multiplayer part. Driving 2 cars that look "boy racer" erm the green "F&F" car and a Red one that are more or less the same shape. Weaving in and out of oncoming traffic and watching what it looks like on Player 2's screen. Doing donuts, crashes, or "burnouts" all look great.
Summary: ARCADE racer. Notice the capitals. I kove this game. It truly, truly rocks your socks off. Its fast, its fun, it has the coolest crash animations, and the "boost" system encourages you to drive not just fast (like rally games) or stylish (Gotham), but like a flat-out maniac. Also, two player is an absolute blast. Notice again, that this is an arcade racer. I love Rallisport and Colin McRae, as rally games. I love Project Gotham as a streetracer.
