BMX XXX Review

IGN Entertainment
9 February 2008
  • Conclusion: BMX XXX is a sad example of a game that got caught up in its own hype. While Acclaim took quite the risky step on improving matters with their Dave Mirra series, but in the end they ended up losing the brand name and just going wild. Lacking refinement and that finesse games like THPS just scream, BMX XXX is just a cheap thrill for a Saturday afternoon when you are really, really bored. BMX XXX is more of an attention grabber than a game seller.

XboxAddict.com
20 May 2005
  • Excerpt: The third installment of the Mirra BMX series brings a whole new flavor to extreme sports gaming. Acclaim touts it as the first mature rated extreme game and mature it is. Within it you'll find loads of adult humor, both in terms of language and situations. For example there are run-ins with prostitutes who'll flash you if you pull off the right moves and as you gain money you can see more skin at the local peep show which actually features real video clips.

Game Vortex
15 January 2004
  • Excerpt: This is BMX? ...ah, the graphics, indeed! The major draw for BMX XXX (shortened as, um... BMX4?) is the 'ecks-ecks-ecks' part at the end. With a tag line like 'Keep it Dirty', it almost seems like the box's black background is specifically to help contrast and highlight the white 'Mature' ESRB Rating. The game delivers on the 'Mature' rating, with Comic Mischief, (CG) Nudity, Strong Language, and Strong Sexual Content, just as the ESRB description on the back states.

The Gamers Temple
9 December 2003
  • Excerpt: You may have heard about some of the controversy surrounding BMX XXX.  Acclaim has taken their Dave Mirra BMX title and created an adult-oriented game out of it, andoncerned citizens have been up in arms about the nudity and adult language appearing in the game.  On the other hand, Acclaim has billed the game as having an adult sense of humor targeted at today's maturing gamers.  As is often the case, this has been much ado about nothing - from both sides of the fence.

  • Excerpt: Like many other games in the genre, XXX’ s main core consists of a single-player mode. Hardcore Tour asks you to complete certain objectives in a time limit in order to open up new levels and other goodies. Unlike other games, time isn’t your only enemy in Hardcore Tour. There is also have an energy meter that is drained every time you wipe out, and can only be refilled by finishing your objectives.

PLANET42
21 November 2002
  • Excerpt: It is interesting how our evaluation of games are based not only on the game itself, but our expectation of what the game should be. Case in point: Pirates - The Legend of Black Kat sits squarely in the bargain bin ($19.99 at posting), but guess what? It’s fun to play and not like anything else out there – 4 Planets, what a deal. BMX is the opposite.
