Blood Wake Review

IGN Entertainment
9 February 2008
  • Conclusion: The more I play this game the more I like it. At first I was turned off by the lack of a more detailed storyline with animated sequences, but the more I played the more addicted I became to the gameplay. This game really feels like you are on a boat and I was amazed at the physics that the developers were able to pull off. A great example of what the Xbox can do as far as lifelike physics go.

  • Excerpt: After a long time largely making licensed games for franchises to earn its crust, British developer Kuju seems determined to break out into the world of original game IP. This ground is lamentably little trodden in today’s industry, so such a move can only be applauded. Even more so when they seek as publisher that finest purveyor of lower priced titles, Oxygen. A recent product of this glorious union was Conspiracy: Weapons of Mass Destruction.

The Laser

  • Summary: Microsoft's excellent oceanic shooter Blood Wake for Xbox offers players an intense shooting experience over some pretty treacherous waters. The game’s realistic water physics are some of the most realistic ever seen on a console and make playing all the more intense. With the addition amazing almost photo-realistic graphics, super cool power-ups and intensely challenging action, this is one not to miss.

Unfortunately, your group, ship, and men have all been killed in a heinous attack. However, thanks to Ped Zeng, the lader of the Shadow Clan, you have been rescued and spared death. Despite the kindness shown in this act, you are not free.

The Armchair Empire
7 March 2002
  • Conclusion: pirates called the Shadow Clan and is saved by them after defeat. He then joins them and performs a variety of missions in their favor. The game has an interesting set of environments but cheats itself out of exploiting them with a lack of cinemas. Instead of cut-scenes there are pirate scroll-like drawings between each level narrated over by someone who sounds like they’re straight out of Water World.

  • Excerpt: Avast, ye scurvy swabs! Hand over yer treasure or … whoops, wrong kind of seafaring pirates. Blood Wake is Microsoft’s twist on the Twisted Metal vehicular combat genre, although it has less in common with Sweet Tooth and the rest of those landlubbers than you might think.
