Big Mutha Truckers 2 Review
9 February 2008
Conclusion: Big Mutha Truckers 2: Truck Me Harder is a good deal more of what we’ve seen before from the series along with a few new twists that should prove to keep fans happy. The game is a budget title retailing for $19.99 and the content does reflect that. The game is fun to play and has a great premise for what proves to be an enjoyable effort, but ultimately its lack of depth is what keeps this from becoming a more viable franchise in today’s industry.
Excerpt: It can be said that every genre is a niche market, something that appeals to a specific group more than other titles. That would explain the rabid nature of its fans; for instance, some people attribute the popularity of the first person shooter to the adrenaline rush its fast twitch play offers. Others might swear upon realistic simulations, which many sports franchises own up to.
Excerpt: Maybe there's a great simulation game to be made from big rig trucking. Picking up hauls, outfiting your rig with new parts, trying to outwit larger, more well-funded competition by getting there first via backroads, and worrying if you're going to get to your next stop before needing to refuel (and do you want to fuel up at the closest gas station, or try to make it to the next station, where gas is cheaper?
Excerpt: Truckers 2 starts off with a simple enough premise that expands upon the plot from the previous title. Ma Jackson, the leader of the Jackson clan of truckers, is getting ready to retire. Unfortunately, the sheriff throws the book at her, arresting Ma for tax evasion and other crimes. Fortunately for her, the security in the county jail is relatively lax, so she can have a cell phone and outside communication relatively easily.
Conclusion: The truck’s controls are easy to get used to, and there is a quite good feeling of weight and inertia, in a non-realistic sort of way. Some of the tight manoeuvring is really quite tough, as are the time limits at certain points, not really allowing for many mistakes. You can easily complete most missions, but your bonuses will be crippled.
Pros: Easy to get to grips with, It doesn’t take itself seriously, It’s only £19.99
Cons: Not that much to it, Won’t last very long, No multiplayer
