The letterbox presentation of Beyond Good & Evil gives the gamer a good indication from the get-go of what to expect; wonderful direction, excellent storytelling, and a compelling plot. The gameplay is good enough to hold its own within the cinematic confines and actually does its fair share to charge the story forward. Read more

The characters are typically weird but charming (you'll even find some of the enemies and the amusing way you dispatch them endearing). There are a few sub games (including racing) and although BG&E isn't the exactly the longest game in the world, once finished you seem to have done an awful lot, and will have enjoyed the journey immensely. A combination of solid Zelda-style gameplay and cinematic excellence push Beyond Good & Evil into the upper echelons of action / adventure games. This is what an interactive movie should be. Read more

    • Wonderful characters and story; fun, solid gameplay; amazing audio; beautiful graphics.
    • Too brief and over far too soon.

By Gary Kearney Well those wacky French are at it again! First they give gamers a limbless little oddball buy the name of Rayman. Even odder than the main character having no arms or legs is that the games were pretty darn good. Now they’re throwing a new game at us, Beyond Good and Evil, with several different genres mixed together while actually having the nerve to also include an interesting, if not a slightly flawed, story. You've got to give Ubisoft a lot of credit: They know how to make the most of an original concept. Any lesser developer would have created Beyond Good & Evil as an all-out action game or a cheesy Metal Gear Solid rip-off for kids. Ubisoft instead crafted BG&E as a thrilling combination of both action and stealth, with just a pinch of cheese for flavor. Read more

I'm clearly in the minority here, but for me, this game did not live up to the hype. It's a decent game, sure, and for something that you can probably get for ~$10 at this point, it's worth a play, but seriously, there are better Xbox games out there, and you don't even have to look hard to find them. When I read about this game in a magazine in March 2004 I thought "I must buy that; It's outstanding..." In truth I never got around to buying it until just recently and honestly I rocks... I have only played the first few levels and its simply magical... The characters, the world, the gameplay and objectives all have a sense of peacefulness to them... Read more
