Arx Fatalis Review

IGN Entertainment
9 February 2008
  • Conclusion: Arx Fatalis, much like any RPG, will not be for everyone. While it can’t be put at the same level as KotOR or Morrowind, Arx offers a more linear gameplay style that is a nice break from the huge open ended worlds the previous games have offered. I was a bit skeptical of Arx due to the initial reaction of the graphics, however after getting past the intro and into the actual gameplay a bit more, I came away very impressed.

Arx Fatalis

Into Liquid Sky
8 April 2006
  • Excerpt: Arx Fatalis is a PC first person role-playing game, originally released in 2002, that has been brought to the Xbox by the fine folks at Dreamcatcher (who also published Syberia and Still Life ). The story presented to the player at the start of the game tells of a world where the sun has gone away. Man has been forced to live in the underground fortress of Arx as the sunless surface has become unlivable.
  • Pros: Strong retro RPG feel to the gameplay, Lots of customization, Combo-oriented magic system, Nice attempt at a realistic world
  • Cons: Dated graphics and mediocre audio, Hit detection is iffy, Map and diary are pretty useless

  • Excerpt: RPG-starved Xbox fans have cause to rejoice-or at least get excited-with the release of Arx Fatalis. If asked to describe Arx in a single word, I'd inevitably go with solid. This port of a PC RPG from last year doesn't do much of anything we haven't seen before, but everything it attempts to do, it does well. If you liked Morrowind, odds are you're going to enjoy Arx Fatalis.

Arx Fatalis

  • Excerpt: You wake up in a dark and damp prison-cell. Outside you can see an odd, but obviously not very smart goblin. He’s grinning, but for some reason you can’t remember anything about yourself – who you are, and why you’re in some strange prison. If you’ve played a few classic RPGs over the years, you should be perfectly familiar with the scenario.

Arx Fatalis - Review (Xbox)

Konsolen-World
19 April 2006
