Aliens vs Predator: Extinction Review
9 February 2008
Conclusion: Aliens vs. Predator: Extinction is one of those types of games that will require getting used to before you can say it’s a game worth your time. Sadly most gamers will not be willing to put this time in due to the lackluster graphics and sound, as well as a limited draw in effect. With that said, however, Extinction is one of the better console RTS games to date, and probably features one of the most user friendly control setups.
Excerpt: The Aliens vs. Predator series has produced some great first person shooters by taking full advantage of both licenses and creating a unique experience. That experience however has been abandoned in favor of a new genre as Aliens Versus Predator: Extinction jumps into the real time strategy arena.
Conclusion: time strategy genre. What’s even more surprising than the change of genre is the fact that this game is only scheduled for the Xbox and PS2, not the PC, the traditional stomping ground of most RTS games. Based on the screenshots, this bold change of genre could be a good move because while graphically a notch below WarCraft III standards, it appears to be developed with a Blizzard RTS-game style in mind that should make AvPE’s gameplay easy to adapt to.
