Works fine but doesn't have as much range as I hoped

Summary: Our house was built 1929 and has plaster walls on metal lath. It's tough for wireless. The range extender really helps but seems to be limited to about 45-50 feet. Because of password on base wifi, manual setup and several attempts were required to connect to the base system.
Summary: The range extender works very well but the instructions were far from clear. The set up is very simple but this is not described in the leaflets that accompanied it. I had to cakll the supplier and as before they were very helfpul talking me through the set up. Not exactly plug and play but I cant think of anything with that description that is.
Summary: I've read some of the previous comments and surprised at what people have written. Firstly I do work in IT and have some experience of networks. I did the "manual" way by connecting it to a laptop via a network cable and followed the instructions TO THE LETTER. It found my main wireless router (BT Home Hub 3) and I just followed the wizard. After configuration it suggested a name for the AP. I gave it a slightly different one so I could connect to it.
Summary: After the latest firmware update, some issues are fixed and it works fine now. The web interface is limited, i'd like more features to be honest, but in general is a great repeater. Hope more firmware updates will follow to add more functionality.
Summary: Once set up works well. Definitely increases signal quality over standard router to Smart TV and has added bonus of enabling Ethernet link to Sky box. Instructions not very clear for a non tekky though. Needed to resort to forum in end. Note that ISP did not help (although it was suggested they should.) Thanks SKY!
Summary: I thought I had received a dud unit at first but then I came across the information from Martin S which I found very useful. I was on the point of sending my Zyxel back as it did not show a received signal even when close to the router. I then came across Martin's comment about manually setting the unit up and he explained it very clearly and lo and behold, it worked.
