Summary: It was definitely a pain to set up as other reviewers have mentioned. I had to call tech support and I am a computer expert. Once it was set up, it would work on and off intermittently. Eventually, it just stopped working one day, about two weeks after setting it up. I lost patience with it and removed it from my network. It's collecting dust on the shelf now. fml.
Summary: Easy to set up? What a joke. The quick start guide is impossible to read. It makes it a little confusing when you print it in every language in the world. The user guide is doubly impossible. Is this really written for consumers? They give you an IP address to register the unit to connect to the internet. Not a link, an IP address. And of course, the IP address doesnt work. So after trying to connect for an hour, I call support.
Summary: I attempted to use this as a repeater for my FIOS wireless router. No matter what settings I used, I would lose an internet connection after about one hour. I would still have wifi, but that's it. As soon as I unplugged the router, it came back. This affected an iPad and a DVD player. The instructions didn't offer any suggestions and an internet search didn't either (just complaints of similar problems). I returned it without issue to Amazon.
Summary: After a lot of research i decided to buy this device to serve as a wi-fi repeater. The device is a total flop in all regards. The setup process is complex - the documentation is horrible. After contacting Zyxel helpdesk they sent me a file that was much more helpful - why isn't that part of the documentation sent to customers??? Unfortunately even with the new docuemtnation i could not get the device to asscoaite with my fairly standard Linksys wi-fi router.
Summary: This needs to be documented. I bought this because it is listed as B/G/N, and I run an N-only network at home (specifically set N-only devices allowed at the router level). This Zyxel will not work in client mode on an N-only network, it requires G+N. After a back and forth with Zyxel support, they blamed my router. Fine, I went out and bought a new router. Same thing - the Zyxel works on G, but not on N. I emailed them again, and again they blamed my router.
Summary: If you decide that this product is what you want then as soon as you connect it phone Technical support at 1(800)255-4101 option#5 because it doesn't work as advertised. Tried it on Win 7 Pro then 7 Home then XP (I have several computers in my home network).....it is not PNP ! No specific help from ZyXEL forums or bulletin's etc. If you do not have at least a bachelors degree in IT then do not try this one on !
Summary: Really not impressed with this item. As a number of other reviewers have said the manual is difficult to understand and the terminology is very IT industry specific which most people who don't work in IT would be unfamiliar with. I get that a certain level of detail is needed but the manual is too specific on some items and gives very little details on other important sections.
Summary: This was advertised as a router with a "universal repeater" mode. Well it doesn't work with Airprint on iDevices so that's not "universal". I contacted support who told me to apply the latest firmware - despite there being nothing in the release note about it fixing this issue. Applied it and still didn't work. Responded to Zyxel again and never heard anything further from them.
