Doesn't get even close to claimed speeds in a recent-construction condominium
11 June 2014
Summary: I'm in a sub-1000sqft unit in a high rise building less than 5 years old -- all the big systems that put interesting loads on the electrical supply (elevators, air conditioning, etc) are far, far away from me. As such, I'd expect to get something remotely close to advertised speeds... right?
Summary: I have a 25mb dsl line and the router is upstairs in my house. My PS3 is downstairs and via wifi I normally get download speed ~5mb and upload of 700k. Hooked this up and it basically doubled my d/l speed to about 9.7mb. Gave it 4 stars only because I am selfish. I can go to speedtest.net on my computer upstairs and I get ~25mb d/l speed connect and via wifi. While I never have gotten over 15mbps on my PS3, my computer downstairs has given me the 25mb d/l via wifi.
Summary: After multiple attempts to synch, i resorted to reading the instruction manual... DOH! After I did what it said, I synched up immediately and all is well - I was running around 120Mbps. All four devices (BD Player, Apple TV, SMART TV and AV AMP) all work fine, and now I get no lag at all for Netflix or Amazon. The only reason for the dropped star, is that I cannot get more than 120Mbps no matter what I try or which power sockets I plug into.
Summary: So what they never tell you about this product, not anywhere that I could find at least, is that the more things plugged into that circuit around your home (not just more network adapters, just anything period), the worse the performance. I had to go around my home unplugging everything that wasn't absolutely necessary to get this thing to 198Mbps. With everything in my home left as normal, I get between 95Mbps - 130Mbps.
Summary: Love Trendnet. The adapter just needs to be plugged into an outlet (directly - NOT into extension cable) and voila - you have wired internet. Superfast and works fantastic in all three levels of my 2600 sqft house. The adapter is on the highest level of my house and delivers superfast internet into all corners of my house.
Summary: I have struggled with other solutions (wireless signal repeaters, strategically placed wireless access points) and this was the last attempt before crawling under the house and wiring rooms up to 100 feet away. Was a bit skeptical because of older home with several electrical subpanels between Point A and Point B. But the Trendnet was fabulous, couldn't be easier to set up, and worked (and has worked) flawlessly since installation. Very fast speeds ...
