SMC Draft 11N Wireless Access Point SMCWEB-N

Amazon Customer, Amazon
9 March 2011
  • Summary: SMC Draft 11N Wireless Access Point SMCWEB-N I am currently using the SMCWEB-N in WDS Mode with a SMCWGBR14-N Wireless Router in Draft-N Mode. The setup is a bit advanced but works flawlessly. I have used both DLINK & Linksys Systems with disappointment, and have been able to get better performance with SMC & Netgear Products, not to mention SMC is made in the USA. I am not comparing SMC to DLINK or Linksys just going with the facts from personal experience.

One nitpick, but otherwise works well

Brian Smith, Amazon

  • Summary: Pros: Works very well as both an access point and a client. The auto channel selection helps a lot in a neighborhood with several wireless networks. Con: Bad design decision (yes, I've asked them) with regard to MAC filtering... generally accepted use is to restrict wireless device access, but SMC uses it to filter ALL packets, from both wired and wireless networks.

Nice ... though WPA not working with Actiontec MI424-WR

Paul Jackson, Amazon
4 February 2009
  • Summary: I tried using this SMCWEB-N as a client with a Verizon FIOS Wireless router. This setup does not work using WPA or WPA2 security. Using WEP works. What I observe is that the SMCWEB-N seems to connect, but then after 3 seconds drops the connection and tries another channel. It keeps coming back to the channel that the Actiontec is using (I tried various channels 1, 3, 6, 8, and 11) but always fails after 3 seconds.

SMC schlägt Telekom

ManfredJG, Ciao

  • Cons: Nichts
