Good for streaming video

nerdslifeforme, Amazon
3 December 2013
  • Summary: Installation and setup was easy. It streams HD video well. I would have given it 5 stars but once and a while I have to unplug both devices and plug them back in to get it to work again.

Overall pretty good

Sundeep Jassi, Amazon
13 November 2013
  • Summary: Works great although it is highly unlikely you will get even close to speeds of 500mbps. Sometimes it won't wake up from sleep mode.

Works surprisingly well.

Edward M., Newegg
13 April 2013
  • Summary: Yes these are rated up to 500MB and yeah, I didn't get 500MB and yeah I'm okay with that. Let's face it, unless you have FiOS, are paying for the absolute top speed your cable company can offer (here, that's 60MB) or have your own personal T1 line you're never going to max these things out if you...
  • Pros: Very simple setup. Works pretty darn good considering what it's actually doing. Used this to replace an 802.11N connection in bedroom that was lacking signal strength. Despite distance from modem and being on separate electrical circuits still managing almost 100MB throughput which is a nice impr...
  • Cons: Did not come with the setup software - needed to download it from Netgear website. I'm sorry, they should have sprung for a disc instead of making me search for it. Others here have reported that these run 'hot' - and yeah they get warm to the touch, but you won't be frying eggs on them. If I wer...

Works well with one exception

DanL, Amazon
10 January 2013
  • Summary: Used for about a month now and I'm experiencing good line speed. Watched a full movie in 1080p from Vudu with no issues. I have had to hit the reset button a few times after it goes into sleep mode from not being used.

Good - but I'm picky

Luis R., Newegg
27 November 2012
  • Summary: You really can't beat this tech - it just works and it is a major lifesaver compared to running lines all over your house.
  • Pros: Easy as can be... plug one end in - plug the other end in connect your cables... tada - internet over powerlines... 4 ports is better than 1.
  • Cons: its always left on, when its left on, after x amount of time (I have not been able to narrow it down) it doesnt see the connection anymore (the devices it's connected to are turned off anyway)and I must disconnect and reconnect from the wall. Once I do that it finds it instantly so I really don't...

Nice to be off of wireless

Clay G., Newegg
21 March 2012
  • Summary: I may try the bios upgrade and maybe a different power outlet to see if I can improve the speed.
  • Pros: It streams data smoothly and fast through my house. I hooked it up yesterday, did no configuration at all just plugged it in. I copied a file from my Windows Home Server which is upstairs in my office to my front room PC which is downstairs and on the other side of the house. Copy speed ran 5.5 t...
  • Cons: didn't get close to 500Mbs speed it is rated at.

Does the job!

The o., Newegg
21 November 2011
  • Summary: I love it... and works way better than wireless...
  • Pros: Works like a charm. Plugged it in and voila... instantly connected LAN across the whole house. No issues running 360, Netflix, Wii and torrents all at the same time.
  • Cons: Does not get up to the advertised limits. Though ppl say its cuz of your unique electrical system.

Powerline works fine but...

D. Stanton "Geek at Large", Amazon
17 June 2011
  • Summary: Powerline networking works fine and the Netgear adapters are fine products. However, so far the AV 500 adapters do not perform any better than the AV 200 adapters I had in place before I ordered the 500's. With either I get about 120Mbit between the same plugs. Just as a warning.

Better than wireless

Red, Amazon
29 May 2011
  • Summary: I bought this for our home theater system to serve an HTPC & Xbox 360 in our living room. Much better connection than the previous wireless-N. I can stream in HD and there's no lag or buffer issues. Backing up the HTPC to my NAS is much faster as well.
