Pass-through works, but Airplay does not

Boris B., Newegg
21 June 2014
  • Pros: Wired connectivity across walls without new wiring. This function works out of box. The connection is solid and fast.
  • Cons: I have struggled getting AirPlay to work. For some reason, while the web configuration interface works, and the device detects the usb cable (which in reality is a USB sound card), it fails to advertise its own presence via zeroconf. None of the programs, including those supplied by NetGear could...

not a must have for me

H.F., Amazon
3 July 2013
  • Summary: I actually found this more aggravating to set up than I anticipated, since all the speakers I wanted to use with it did not have the proper inputs. I ended up digging out an old school system and then I found the sound quality to be lacking.

Still working on it.....

Shannon "Shannon On The Lakes", Amazon
1 July 2013
  • Summary: Why do you need this? The WiFi signal in the yard isn't that great. With this, the audio can be in every room, AND outside! Any issues, free phone support (after you register the product), a rarity indeed. Terrific device, BUT I'm having an issue.

Good for streaming music, Low throughput overall

Sebastian M., Newegg
24 June 2013
  • Summary: I've had this product for almost a month now and it's been tested in several rooms in the house and under a variety of test conditions and at no point have I been able to achieve more than 15% of the theoretical maximum data transfer rate of 200Mbps.
  • Pros: Ability to connect music or bring Internet connectivity to any room in the house, without costing you an outlet or causing issues with WiFi adapters in tight spaces, several floors above (or below) your router.
  • Cons: Throughput in EVERY test I did was low. In some (very few) cases too low to stream movies from a file server. I wouldn't use this for anything except streaming music or basic Internet connectivity. You probably won't have much luck taking advantage of that theoretical 200Mbps bandwidth for transf...

You'll probably do better with Apple airplay or Windows 7 or greater.

  • Summary: I currently have two brands of poweline adapters, Trendnet and TP-link, both of which work very well. I'm a big believer in powerline adapters as I'm able to get fast internet speeds pretty much anywhere in my 1980's era house through a regular outlet.

Works, Mostly

Samuel N., Newegg
14 June 2013
  • Summary: I'm really happy with how the networking portion of this powerline adapter works. However, the media extender is useless, and the poor build quality doesn't help matters. In the end, it's not bad, but I'd recommend looking for one that doesn't have the media extender features - it will be cheaper...
  • Pros: Ethernet works. The connection is sufficiently fast. It worked immediately when I plugged it into the wall. Encryption isn't a major process that throws a breaker (this happened with a different brand). Also, it should be noted that I've seen a number (not many, but still) of powerline adapters t...
  • Cons: The build quality, for starters. They're light and fairly flimsy feeling - not something I would expect to cost any significant amount of money. To make things worse, one of the adapters has a power socket that is too tight, so I actually had to hit the plug that I was trying to stick into the so...

Couldn't get it to work. At all

Bookenator, Amazon
9 June 2013
  • Summary: I've been looking for something like this for a while, so I was excited that Amazon was sending me one to review through its Vine program. When it arrived it had a little letter from NetGear saying that if I had any problem I should contact them at a special Vine reviewer email address.

Geek Toy

Kenith H., Newegg
6 June 2013
  • Summary: NAS Function isn't great unless you plan on only reading from the NAS or writing few and small files few and far between. USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 so all your flash drives and such should work without a problem.
  • Pros: Great Music Extender This is what they are pushing on their advertising and for good reason! It's the best and only function I will use this device for! Unlike the USB port in my router, this one works with NTFS drives. That is a big deal for anyone who lost a bunch of pictures trying to sync on ...
  • Cons: I plugged in a 256GB SSD to check out how the network storage would perform. Boy did it take me back to windows 95 days! Alright, that may be a bit harsh but 20 minutes to move a 1.2GB iPod video? Far too slow to be of any use! I plugged in our wireless printer that has been giving us a bunch of ...

Powerline Streaming-Adapter mit USB-Hub

Riocolor, Amazon
9 February 2014
  • Summary: Ich nutze das Model mit USB-Anschluss.
