I'd buy it again

Louann T., Newegg
23 September 2008
  • Summary: I just bought a new laptop and it did not come with "n" internal adapter. So far it works where the wife uses it and she is satisfied with connection speed, but if she needs more I would not hesitate to buy another WN511T.
  • Pros: I get fast connections all over my house. I used to have a little trouble when the "plumbing wall" was between the router and previous notebook adapter. The WN511T coupled with a WNR3500 has solved that "problem."
  • Cons: ANY notebook adapter sticks out of the notebook. I find this annoying with all of them. Can't blame the WN511T.

Review Update

David C., Newegg
16 January 2008
  • Summary: I have the Netgear paird router (WNR854T), by the time you read this, an newer update (not for North America) will be available to download. It just amazing to me how my internal wireless card can get such a stronger signal then the netgear card.
  • Pros: When in a perfect situation (same floor as router, in open site), I can achieve the 300mbps as avertised. I stream my HD movies to the laptop and copy data as well with no lag
  • Cons: Terrible any where else. It is obviously known that when u move away from the router source, your signal will decrease. What doesn't make sence is on my 3rd floor, this card has trouble holding onto a 11mbps signal while the built in wireless nic in my nx9420 has just 1 bar missing from the signa...

Fast as hell

Andres G., Newegg
1 September 2007
  • Pros: I was using the integrated wireless card that comes with the laptop, well with my 802.11g, i'm still using the same router and everything. well with this card the speed increased by 3x, NO KIDDING! just imagine what the speed will be if you use the router that they tell you to use!
  • Cons: NONE

WN511T

Anonymous, Newegg
29 June 2007
  • Summary: There are two blue LEDs that are very bright on the side that will be visible to you as you look down at your laptop and if you don't ignore them they might be annoying to some people. This wireless card works great for noobs.
  • Pros: Excellent card for older laptops and newer ones without built in wireless connection. Price on Newegg is high so I got mine from _bay for under $30. Range is ok with g-wireless routers. n-wireless might be more powerful. Have good security. It's a must to download upgraded software and install it...
  • Cons: Like I mentioned earlier--you need to upgrade the software in order to get good performance--factory settings were not optimized right. You can download the new software from their web site as you are trying to install from CD or you can do that later once you get your internet connection going o...

Not bad

David C., Newegg
24 February 2007
  • Summary: NOt a big fan of their software, so I installed to gain access to the drivers, copied the drivers then remove the software. Not alot of products (wireless media players) that support wireless N. Even though it claims to transmit at 270mbps, you dont actually get it.
  • Pros: I have been using Netgear products for several years... this card it ok. Nothing to go crazy for.
  • Cons: Would not work with driver from the box cd. I had to go onto another computer and download the updated driver. Even with the Gig Draft N router, I seem to have some troubles keeping the signal solid. `

NetGear Wireless-N Card

Bob B., Newegg
12 February 2007
  • Summary: I have given up on NetGear!! Their support is beyond unacceptable!! Bought this product Bcuz I could not return the router (WNR854T) I purchased 5 months ago. Previously card (WG511T) only obtained 54 MB/s when attached to this router. Yet on my previous router (WG624T) it would hit 108 MB/s.
  • Pros: Up to 300 MB/s Wireless!!! NewEgg ROCKS!! Prompt turn around. Received the card in two business days!
  • Cons: Install is ALWAYS a pain with NetGear products. Initial install (from CD) did not take, and hung twice. Once connected, it topped off at 54 MB/s. Had to obtain the latest driver to get 200 MB/s +.

General feedback

Debottym M., Newegg
29 October 2006
  • Summary: A little on the expensive side. You could wait a couple of months for -prices to come down -better products
  • Pros: Works great once you've got the firmware upgraded from (http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WN511B.asp)
  • Cons: WAP/WEP not supported unless you have the firmware upgraded! How can a product be shipped without the basics!?

Works great when router WNR845T works

Anonymous, Newegg
16 October 2006
  • Summary: When PC or laptop comes out of hibernation mode, access the internet always causes 'Page Not found' error. Take a while before automatic DNS & WINS is re-established and internet access is restored. Problems lies with router not the PCCard.
  • Pros: 300Mbps connection to WNR854T only
  • Cons: None so far

Great Card

Anonymous, Newegg
16 October 2006
  • Pros: Fast connection. Was connecting at 300-450 with the internal Intel Proset 56K card and this improved my connection to 800-900. My DSL connection is around 1250, so to connect at around 80% speed with this WIFI card is impressive.
  • Cons: Little pricey at $xxx
