Summary: This was easy enough to setup and does an adequate job. I think my underlying problem is a poor range on my wireless router. I had to locate this range extender so close to the router (in the next bedroom) to pick up the signal that it has trouble reaching the furthest room in the house. Probably should have addressed the underlying problem rather than this 'bandaid' approach. However, as a quick fix, this has done an adequate job.
Excerpt: In a small medical practice, with the dual band router in the utility room some seven rooms away from the farthest exam room, 2GHz WiFi access was spotty and the 5GHz WiFi wasn't even making it back there at all. Total distance to the most remote room: ~100 feet and 6 walls. Netgear setup was quick and exactly as documented in the instructions. I installed it at the midpoint where the signal was still solid for both bands.
Summary: I am glad that I read reviews on a lot of these before I ordered this one. So many had poor reviews and I wanted to get a signal pretty far from the main router. I did not expect much even considering the good parts I read about this one. The house where the main router is has a concrete foundation underground and the house is a combination of brick and stone. There is a small studio on the same property but far which is also stone.
Excerpt: This range extender works ok for limited distances. You need to make sure it is positioned within range of the wireless router which takes some trial & error. My experience is that it extended the wireless signal only about 30 feet. There is only one Ethernet port which limits the usefulness. The main benefit of this model is its low profile. A traditional range extender would be more versatile if space allows.
Summary: I bought this item since Netgear equipment is usually reliable and easy to use. As an IT guy, I think the setup may be a bit complicated for the average home user. The instructions were okay, but may confuse a novice. The important thing to understand is this does NOT extend your existing SSID, rather it extends your coverage by adding another SSID. For example, if your wireless router is named "Home_WiFi", the Netgear will establish a second SSID "Home_WiFi_EXT".
Excerpt: I purchased the Netgear Dual Band Range Extender because I wanted to print documents to an old Okidata laser printer that I had and it did not have wireless network capabilities. I was able to hook this device up with ease and it works with my desktop and tablet, however I was not able to get it to work with my Microsoft Surface. But overall I'm very satisfied. It was cheaper to buy this than to buy a new laser color printer.
