  • Summary: I purchased this product in V7 from Walmart and had to return it right away. It would only work with PC and the internet. If you want to use is with an XBOX 360 you need something else. It will not allow the correct network traffic to support Live Chat and Live Games. This is unacceptable when your an Xbox fan and user. I tried wired and wireless, all the many recommended port forwardings, default settings and more. I can connect to LIVE but I can't chat.

  • Summary: I purchased the Linksys wireless router to replace my netgear, which was working, but kept dropping the wired connection. I am relatively computer savvy, but could not get a connection. So I called customer service, who said that the problem was very easy to fix, but that they needed to charge me an additional $10 to access my computer via Linksys Direct Connect and fix it.

  • Summary: I purchased this product over a week ago and I will be returning it. I find it very slow or no reception at all. My husband and I both have wireless computers and mine is only 3 months old but for the most part I can not get decent reception with this router. It will work for a few minutes then it goes out the window and the page I am working on crashes and I have to start over.

Beware

Mark M., Newegg

  • Summary: 2) The software also attempts to contact 63.123.33.74.
  • Pros: It can be made usable with 3rd party firmware.
  • Cons: Okay here is where it gets interesting. This device in my case (and some others that I have read about) are only able to correctly operate when the setup CD is used. I can understand using the disc for individuals who are unfamiliar with the hardware. I however am not and the 1st time I forwent this process and configured it via the web browser. The device work well for about 24hrs. After that period the device became unresponsive. Finally after repeated attempts w/o ...

  • Summary: I don't know if the problem has been with my ISP and the modem they supplied but I have had no luck adding a wired windows XP desktop to this system on my own and I did a ton of reading on this and the forum help is complicated and it depends on your ISP and requires you go into DOS configurations and commands...stuff like that. arrrrrg!

  • Summary: When using the wireless, the product will lock up maybe once a day, to resolve this you have to unplug/replug it. When trying to stream video I Have also had issues. Doesn't work too well with the Playstaion 3. If you need a casual wireless router for just surfing the web/checking email this is okay. Serious gaming/downloading/video streaming I don't recommend this product. Also very few access controls are built into this router.

  • Summary: Earlier revisions of the WRT54G were outstanding; the current incarnation leaves something to be desired. The model currently sold online and in stores is ver. 8. It's full-featured and easy for casual and novice users, but those looking at the WRT54G for its custom firmware compatibility should seek an older hardware revision. The v8 has less RAM and flash memory than previous incarnations, restricting the potential modifications that can be applied to this model.

  • Summary: I got the 3Mbps cable internet from Charter in my apartment and wanted a wireless router. After attempting setup two times, I finally was able to install the software. (They ask you for ISP information that I couldn't find on my computer) As soon as I used the internet with the wireless router, I noticed a difference. Pages took 30-40 seconds to load instead of fractions of a second.

Not A Great Product & Not A Great Company

  • Summary: If you are in the market for a router, I recommend that you avoid this model and if you are offered a rebate on a Linksys item, don't bother.
  • Pros: Works well when it works; looks good; inexpensive.
  • Cons: Doesn't work well for long; horrible wait time for support; inexperienced support; long wait rebate.
