The device features ports such as Internet port, four Ethernet port, USB and Power. The physical attributes to the device includes Wi-Fi Protected Setup and Reset buttons; LAN [1-4], W-Fi Protected Setup™, Wireless, Internet and Power LED indicators; CAT 5e cabling, two antennas and R-SMA connector. The WRT160NL features WEP, WPA, WPA2, RADIUS and SPI Firewall security protocols with up to 128-Bit encryption security key bits. The device supports FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS file systems for storage device. The device also features a built-in storage link that lets users transform any USB storage drive into a NAS; built-in media server that lets users share multimedia with any connected UPnP-enabled clients; MIMO technology that uses multiple radios to create a robust signal that travels farther and reduces dead spots; and wireless speeds for high bandwidth applications such as video streaming or file sharing.

The Linksys WRT160NL is a Linux-based Wireless-N Broadband Router with Storage Link that is designed to deliver speed and coverage, and allows multiple users to go online, transfer large files, print, and stream stored media simultaneously wirelessly. The device supports Wireless-N speed and bandwidth that facilitates multiple users to share Internet access, files and printing. Users can enjoy media-intensive activities like gaming, video and Voice-over-IP phone calls simultaneously with less lag and performance degradation. The WRT160NL is also fully compatible with Wireless-G and -B equipment. Utilising the Multiple Out MIMO technology, the WRT160NL uses the signal reflections that confuse ordinary wireless technologies to boost range and reduce dead spots. The Storage Link feature lets users connect a hard drive or flash-based USB storage device directly to the network to add gigabytes of storage. Users can access music, video, or data files from anywhere within the network. The device also features built-in DLNA 1.5 compatible media server that streams to PCs or UPnP AV digital media adapters. The WRT160NL also features four 10/100 Ethernet ports that lets users connect printers, networked storage drives, and other Ethernet-enabled devices to the network. The gives multiple users access to these devices allowing them to remotely share files, do print outs and access network storage drives from anywhere in the house/office. The WRT160NL features WEP, WPA, WPA2, RADIUS and SPI Firewall security protocols with up to 128-Bit encryption security key bits.
