Summary: There aren't many items that compel me to write reviews, but the Hawking HWREN2 is without a doubt one such item. I have been living in a World of constant complaints from spouse and offspring alike regarding the number of bars they receive on their X-Boxes, their iPads, and their laptops and desktops. Literally not a day goes by without someone screaming "My connection went down" or "Is anyone else having problems with their connection?
Summary: This unit seems to have trouble maintaining connection. Once it did connect it worked fine but it was a constant having to reboot the item. Ended up returning the product. Had no problems returning product.
Summary: I had to return this device as it had many flaws. First, the DHCP default was set to enable, however the documentation said the default was disable. Secondly, it was impossible to change the IP address to be visible in my home network. If you use the default IP address, you cannot log in to the device once it's set up. I think it like to have the DHCP set to enable. The only time I could log into it was after a factory reset.
Summary: My original HWREN1 bit the dust after a few years of faithful service. I was happy with its reliability so felt confident in purchasing an HWREN2. Setup was pretty straightforward using the web interface. Initial connection was good and it improved the signal strength and throughput in a "dark zone" of my house. However, I now periodically lose internet connection and resetting the HWREN2 does not reliably restore connection (takes a few tries).
