My first and last Hawking product

Mitch, Amazon
11 January 2012
  • Summary: I've had this range extender for a couple years now. I've tried three different times to set it up and struck out every time. Yesterday, I tried again and (mostly) got it up and running. My biggest problems with the device: 1) It takes my laptop 1 minute and 18 seconds (!

Try another product

Murphy, Amazon
5 June 2011
  • Summary: Frustrating product. Set up was fine, it kept asking for a security code and would not let me connect. Tried all possible security codes and nothing worked. Called tech and was sent to India where the rep could not understand me. After trying to say and spell my name four times, I gave up.

Great idea - horrible in practice

usmcgymnast, Amazon
27 May 2011
  • Summary: The idea of a wifi range repeater is a great concept. This product is horrible. Took me 4 hours over 2 days to finally get it working (the last hour and a half of which was on the phone with an outsourced customer service rep).

On a Mac? Forget about it.

Thomas Lavin "t_arch", Amazon
4 January 2011
  • Summary: The instructions in their manual to set up this unit on a Mac are incomplete and outdated, so you MUST call India over a poor connection and speak with someone you won't understand - there are no other options. In the end, they couldn't get my unit running anyway.

Made everything worse

Anonymous, Newegg
21 July 2010
  • Summary: Just move the router you have this thing is useless
  • Pros: I did boost the signal
  • Cons: But it cut the bandwith into about 25% and made everything run alot slower. I had to disconnect it just to get things working and loading again.

Could not get it to set up

Lawrence G. Smith, Amazon

Hawking is useless

Sleepy, Amazon
14 July 2010
  • Summary: Can access the Hawking HWREG1 Wireless G Range Extender very well from 3 laptops and a PS3. On the otherhand, it does not allow internet access. Therefore, it is a brick that serves no purpose (Might could use it for a doorstop). It extended the range of what could not be done already.
