Summary: Marginally improves signal. Needs new driver that is online from board manufacturer (Google product for new driver)New software is much easier to use. Only use original cable that is supplied, any extensions degrade the signal enough so that there is no improvement. Would I buy again...
Summary: I purchased the Hawkin HWDN1 over 4 years ago but never got the chance to review it. The reason for my purchase was because i lived with my brother at the time and i could not pick up a strong signal even though i was probably 150-200ft away from the router. I purchased a $20 wireless adapter and it got a signal strenth of 28% or so. That's where i turned to amazon's reviews for this product and when i purchased it i was pleasantly surprised.
Summary: I was about to order another HWDN2, as it worked better than any stick or other peripheral, when I discovered the HWDN1. Paid more than I'd planned to, but it's well worth it. Easy to set up, and it really pulls in the signal. Right now, my signal strength is only 21%, but I'm cruising... Very happy with this product and will continue to purchase Hawking devices as needed.
Summary: Do not waste your money on this. This does not work at all. I have called support twice and got no help at all. Even though this says on the box that it extends the range up to 600%, my range was not extended at all and the support told me it is not to extend the range but is only a wireless adapter to connect to the internet. Also, I ran the diagnostic test in the program and got one number with a "warn" and another number stating "failed to create a command file.
Summary: I tried installing this on my Mac 10.4.11 and Windows 7 computers. The dish itself installed and detected networks, but I could not get my Mac to connect with those signals. Hawking customer support was NO help. I had similar issues with my Windows 7 computer. I have some knowledge of computers, and followed the directions on this.
Summary: I have some free wireless networks near my house and I thought it will be a good idea to spend some money on some good wi-fi adapter in order to improve the signal and to have good internet and not to spend each month on service. I had 1-2 bars of connection with my HP Pavilion and i find around 10-12 networks.
Summary: I just got this in the mail. It took 20 minutes for me to install. It wouldn't take near that long had my computer's cd reading abilities not become compromised a while back. However, a single search on the Hawking website gave a downloadable copy of the cd that works the exact same as the provided cd. Great support. So for ease of instillation, this gets 5 stars. Then for its use, all I had to do was select the internet I wanted and connect. 5 stars for ease of use.
Summary: Using this booster in the window of my rv, I was able to receive a signal over the top of a large rv parked next to me even tho we were at the very edge of the reception area. Had I not received a better signal this way, I would have tried putting the booster outside on the roof. I don't know how it does in rain! Other models are available at [...] but I bought at amazon.com because of expedited shipping.
Summary: This adapter is better than most over-hyped high-range antennas but it still is a must to have it placed outside for it to be 100% effective. I could not get a good signal indoors, it was even weak through a window. I have since purchased an Alfa 1W 9db gain omni-directional antenna and adapter kit and had better results.
