Works Well, but Setup Extremely Tricky

Sanjay M., Newegg
29 December 2014
  • Summary: A more thorough setup walkthrough, troubleshooting guide, or FAQ would improve the experience dramatically.
  • Pros: The device works quite well once set up.
  • Cons: The setup process is prone to a number of weird snags, and there isn't enough available documentation to troubleshoot effectively. Specifically, the page on which you set up the Wi-Fi connection kept automatically refreshing, making it impossible to enter the network password. I almost returned i...

Works, mostly

Christian B., Newegg
6 October 2014
  • Pros: When it did work it was OK, not great but enough to get the WiFi to a different section of our place.
  • Cons: Stopped working after ~11 months.

Simple... but not customizable.

Kevin D., Newegg
31 August 2014
  • Summary: I would not buy this again if it broke. The lack of higher band frequencies and customization leaves me wanting more. If anyone of my less-than-techy-friends says they need an extender I will likely give them this and buy myself a better one.
  • Pros: Super easy to setup! I would absolutely order one of these for my mother in another state. I could talk her through setting it up over the phone; it's that easy. And the signal really is improved.
  • Cons: 1. CREATES A NEW NETWORK!! IT DOESN'T JUST EXTEND YOUR EXISTING ONE. 2. Only works on the low band of wireless networks. I have a dual band router and I am not able to see nor select the higher band signals. 3. There is ABSOLUTELY no room for customization. You can't name the new network, it defa...

  • Pros: The signal put out REALLY is much stronger than most (if not all) routers. The color coded led front is pretty nice for being able to check on your network. The phone app is really great.
  • Cons: This thing sets up a WHOLE NEW SSID, not just a mirror of your current network. You don't get to name this SSID, it's always "old network name_ 2ex".

Good when it works.

Tadd N., Newegg
3 August 2014
  • Summary: This is inexpensive and has acceptable performance, but watch out for degradation with long-term use.
  • Pros: Initially it worked as advertised. Speeds were relatively good, and it did a good job of extending my network.
  • Cons: After a few weeks of use, it became flaky. Either its wifi would drop or it would drop its connection to the main router (other devices can connect fine during this time, so it's not the router). Resetting the device fixes the issue, but the need to reset has become more frequent with time, and n...

All good but it was tricky to set up in an advanced network.

Ronald T., Newegg
21 July 2014
  • Summary: It is primitively designed for SOHO use and it's cost is low. Set up page needs to be improved for more configuration options.
  • Pros: For common home network, it is simple and east to set up. Just follow the instructions and you should have it up in few minutes. It works on both 2.4 and 5 GHz spectrums and Airplay works perfectly fine.
  • Cons: If you have advanced wireless network, then you need to make sure that multicast is enabled and functioning for Airplay. Also, you need to ensure your wireless router does accept and respond arp request from passive client (this wireless bridge). If not, device connected to the bridge will not ge...

wifi extender

hitesh d., Newegg
31 December 2013
  • Pros: Allows wifi in areas of home beyond reach of linksys router. Easy to connect.
  • Cons: Problem is that wifi extender is a different wifi network address than the main router. This means to use it, I need to connect to it each time I find myself out of range. I had expected my existing wifi will be boosted in those areas which is not the case. Ended up buying a stronger router.

  • Pros: Easy setup with very little configuration needed. Fairly decent instructions.
  • Cons: I am not very impressed with the speed or reliability of the connection. I seem to have quite a few dropped packets when using the extender.
