Conclusion: D-Link's DIR-865 L falls short in overall performance compared with other draft 11ac routers on the market. Issues with features that should make the DIR-865 L stand from its competitors such as the SharePort utility and the mydlink cloud service are too problematic to give the DIR-865 L an edge...
Pros: Provides 11ac as well as 802.11n. USB port for attaching USB drives. Robust IPv6 support.
Cons: Performs worse than competing draft 11ac routers on the market. USB port does not support printers. SharePort utility interface issues. Problems signing up and registering for mydlink cloud service.
Summary: The D-Link DIR-865L is the fastest 802.11ac router that we've tested, at least with the new standard. The performance in combination with 802.11n clients is generally not that impressive. The fact that this router is a speed demon on 802.11ac is great, but not yet very useful in real life.
