The DIR-300 measures 5.8 x 1.3 x 4.4 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 0.5 pounds and ships with a CAT5 Ethernet cable and a detachable dipole antenna. It has diagnostic LED lights that indicate the power, internet, WLAN and LAN status. The DIR-300 is compatible with computers running on the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4, Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or later; Mac OS X 10.3 and 10.4; and most Linux OS distributions.

In addition to the 802.11g and 802.11b wireless standard compatibility, the D-Link DIR-300 also offers 4 built-in Ethernet ports. With these ports, the user can connect Ethernet-enabled computers, print servers and other devices. Setting up the router is made simple with D-Link’s Quick Router Setup Wizard.

The DIR-300 also features Dual SSIDs which allows the user to configure two wireless networks; one private and one public hotspot. With Tomizone, this public hotspot enables the user to setup a revenue earning Wi-Fi network. Tomizone involves no cost in activation as well as in maintenance with no additional hardware or billing system needed.

For security, the D-Link DIR-300 provides a built-in firewall as well as WEP (64 bit and 128 bit), WPA and WPA 2 security encryption. In addition, the router also features MAC address filtering, a parental control utility, advanced scheduling and user level control.
