Summary: Nice that D-Link was willing to send me a replacement (after multiple support calls), but too bad is was another customer's reject. I am carefully reading Newegg's reviews for a unit with more consistent and reliable performance.
Pros: My first DI-624 worked mostly as advertised with a good signal through the floor and multiple walls for almost a year.
Cons: D-624 began dropping internet out more and more often and felt hot to the touch. Had to disable Super G and Turbo, and extended range and WPA. Finally became so unreliable as to be useless. Waded through the endless support telephone tree several times until D-Link sent me a replacement, which arrived in a plain box, obviously someone's returned unit. But after a few days that one has a signal only reached 8-10 feet line of sight. Gets no connection at all 20 feet awa...
Summary: This is a great router when it works. Rebooting issues made this thing worthless for me.
Pros: Good router utilities, decent range and signal
Cons: REBOOTS. This router has a tendancy to just reboot at random, sometimes going through stretches of rebooting itself every few minutes or so. The support from D-Link is absolutely horrible. They claimed it's because one of my computers has a worm (they don't, checked), because the settings were wrong (settings were correct), and basically couldn't help me. The firmware updates seem to make this thing less reliable, and some firmware updates had so many problems that it...
Pros: When it works it is great but that is not often.
Cons: Drops connection for no apparent reason. Disconnect is random and can happen at any time, at times connection will last a week, at other times connection will disconnect after 3 minutes. Dlink has no solution.
Summary: Dont buy this router go for something else.
Pros: Good thing about this router is that is easy to setup everything is color coded. The throughput on both wired and wireless is excellent.
Cons: The first thing I did was check the firmware update because the one I dot default was from 2 years ago. After updating to the recent one every time I log on to xbox live with the 360 my router reboots. So I downgraded it to the one before and I get lag playing games like WC3 and BF2. It network lag for sure. Now it keeps rebooting at unusual times.
Summary: Not good for Torrents at all. I am running the latest firmware yet it still keeps resetting the LAN line (actual cable connection to the PC) every 10-20 minutes. This happens also when I am connecting through the WiFi. I would not recommend it. Search the net and you will see bunch of people are having problems with it. It works alright for regular browsing though or file transfer from PC to PC on the Wifi. I did not try gaming.
Pros: price, easy setup
Cons: Dropping lines with multiple connections. Can't just unplug it and use your modem then plug it back.
Pros: I bought one of these 2 years ago and it works great! No complaints. I'm mainly using it for the firewall capabilities and I can set it up and use it from either SUSE Linux or Win XP. It is easy to use, works well, the wireless works well, and the product keeps the riffraff out if you configure it right.
Cons: I thought that since it was good once, it'll be good again for a gift. I ordered a new one and tried to configure it. It configured OK, but the first problem I had with this new one is ability to connect to certain sites and retrieve downloads. I know the router is the problem because I replace this element in my system with another just like it (and same settings) and the old one works. Tech support was not very helpful. After upgrading the firmware the router worked...
Summary: Latest from CS:"Date of Reply: 1/5/2007 Products: DI-624_revC Operating System: Windows XP Home You can not block this ports on this router. You may need a business class router which gives you the ability to block any port as desired.
Pros: Ok if you like having open ports
Cons: If you need to have all ports blocked, this is not the router for you.
Summary: I've owned three of these over the past three years (H/W rev A, B, C). Each of them worked relatively well when new but had quirks (static DHCP, reboots, DHCP lease, etc). As others have noted, the DI-624 has issues with inadequate heat dissipation. They work best when vertically oriented, but even then, with a high load on the wireless interface the unit will overheat and reboot itself. I finally replaced it with a Linksys WRT54GL which operates flawlessly.
Summary: How about a firmware upgrade from dlink? Too bad, doesn't exist.
Pros: I like the features that it comes with and for the price you can't beat it.
Cons: Its only a good price if it works. I tried to get it setup and everytime i tried to hook more than one computer up to it the router would reset. The router has only firmware 1.00 (the release version for it)
