Excerpt: I hoped to extend my Wi-Fi range to a diffeent building on our lot. The device worked OK in the house, but could not reach the second building. The problem was apparently too many circuit breaker boxes to traverse. Other reviews had warned about this issue, but I tried it anyway.
Summary: I purchased the PLWK400 two months ago (Feb 13) to hookup an Xbox (wired connection) and to get better wireless coverage in our game room at the opposite end of our house. I went with the Linksys Powerline solution only because I already had an existing Linksys router.
Summary: Once installed it works well. I was surprised to find that a separate wireless network was established. From the name I expected it to be a simple extension of my existing wireless. The installation was far from simple. I read and re-read the instructions and was unable to get it to work.
Summary: I live in a one-floor apartment and my Wi-Fi would not reach from my living room to the furthest bedrooms. All of my rooms are on the same circuit breaker, so this product was a good potential solution for me. I'll start by saying that when the product works, it is really fantastic.
Summary: From CISCO online support: "Unfortunately, your device is not yet compatible to work with Windows 8. It still doesn't have drivers compatible for Windows 8." So if you want to update the firmware or do anything with the utility, you can't do it with Windows 8, even after adjusting the compatibility...
Excerpt: This extender worked very well in improving the signal strength in other areas of my large home. My main problem with it, and the reason it doesn't get 5 stars, is not the wifi strength, but rather the lack of settings and management options.
