So, should you buy the WL-520gU for your home network? My answer is: it depends. If you want a box you can set up quickly and forget about, with no extra fiddling, my answer is a definite no. The factory firmware was a complete performance disaster, and while ASUS’ supplied updates smoothed things out somewhat, there were still serious hiccups whenever traffic exceeded that of light web surfing. The Asus name used to be bullet proof and I bought this router without hesitation. But given the huge volume of complaints for the same problem I would think Asus would have taken proactive measure to correct the issue by now. I email Asus 4 days ago still waiting for a reply. Read more

Well, I know just about nothing about computers. The complex I moved in to has wireless. So I have a good signal and recption...I noticed that it kept jumping from one connection to another, and they are numbered 1 thru 7. Some connections are stronger than others? So I started looking at routers. I'm getting 5 bars each on 2 channels? And this router improved my digital to anolog TV converter reception too!? Read more

Used the updates from the Asus website, not the enclosed software, and set-up took less than 20 minutes. Nice design, small and innocuous. Not using this for wireless printing so I can't comment on how well this works, but it does a great job at keeping two 7-year old laptops online. Read more

I truly love this product, I just wish that it had come with a better manual that explains the fact that you first have to upgrade the bios and how this is done. Otherwise I'm looking forward to a long and fruitful surf affair with this router. Read more

I bought this router because I was hoping to install the Tomato firmware so that I could issue static IP addresses, set up port forwarding, configure QOS, and use other "advanced" features. So far, all is well! I had to go through a bit of trial and error when flashing the firmware, so let me summarize my experience here. First, I installed DD-WRT using the Asus firmware upgrading tool. See this site for help: www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/in... Read more

    • Can be upgraded to Tomato, DD-WRT, or other "open" firmware. Solid, inexpensive router.
    • None for me.

The Asus WiFi adapter installed easily and worked without complaint the first time. It connects every time and has not dropped any packets. While I don't have the necessary equipment to test its signal-to-noise or do a side-by-side comparison, the card works for me without issue. I generally don't care for wireless solutions where an Ethernet cable is better suited, but until I get around to running the wires, this is a great solution. Read more

  • Incorrect Color

When I print through the router's print server it yields an incorrect color. Ex. Orange is printed like Magenta. Anyone else had this problem? I sent the query to Asus but they werent able to find the problem.
