Stopped Working After 3 Weeks

Lees,, TigerDirect.com
30 April 2014
  • Summary: No longer powers on less than a month of use! It just died, no lights flashing besides the adapter lights. Did some research and it's a known problem for this router. Does work well when it is on. Unfortunately it's past the return date. Asus would not replace parts due to purchase not directly through them. Money down the drain and I cannot afford a new one.

  • Summary: The Router is easy to set up for basic use. However the quick start manual does not explain how to setup VPN, Print server, guest network. Asus support is limited to FAQ's, chat response is - severe weather has caused a shutdown - that was weeks ago so I really question if they even have a chat support service center. The software is just a basic router install utility.

Asus RT-N66U IEEE 802.11n Wireless Router

ndkien, Overstock
14 January 2014
  • Summary: I bought the Asus RT-N66u router to replace an old and cheap Linksys hoping for better routing and wider coverage. Instead this router did the opposite and I wish I did not purchase it. The router becomes overheated and dropped off connection without warning. The internet signals slowed down noticeably and cut off completely. Reconnection was done by itself within one minute and the whole thing repeated before a streaming song ended.

I would like to return it.

  • Summary: The technical Support is very bad. Windows 8 and 7 can not access the router's VPN, but the win XP can. I contact the technical support, the answer is nothing. But the wireless signal is strong.

Not very Mac compatible

WirelessinSeattle, ABT Electronics

  • Excerpt: This router is #1 on many 'Best Router' lists. However, I found setup to be more than a hassle on my Mac. Sometimes the setup wizard would show and sometimes it wouldn't. When I finally got the networks set up, the 5GHz band was very unreliable. Switching to 2.4GHz didn't help much. Sent this back and got a Belkin N600 for half the price. Couldn't be happier.
  • Cons: Difficult To Set Up, Unreliable connection

Stability issues

  • Excerpt: I bought this router based on numerous favorable reviews. Unfortunately, I had to return mine due to stability issues. Every day or two it would drop it's connection to the internet, and give me the error message "you have set the wrong dynamic or static IP address for your RT-N56U". I had no problems with my older router, however. After poking around on the ASUS support forums, it appears that this is a common issue, apparently with no resolution as of yet.
  • Pros: Easy To Set Up, Fast
  • Cons: Unreliable connection

Great router but no VPN support

  • Excerpt: This is a fast, easy to set up, high speed router. The only problem is that it will not work with my school's VPN client. Since the firmware version has no pass through and updates refused to load, I had to exchange it for an Netgear router. Pity because it is an otherwise beautiful product.
  • Pros: Easy To Set Up, Fast, Fast Connection Speed
  • Cons: Does not work with VPN

A good beta product needs work!

  • Excerpt: This router was to replace my old WNDR 3300. I wanted to ensure I had a router that could keep up with XBOX Live, HD streaming, websurfing, etc. The gigabit ports are great, wireless G OK, and wireless N has many disconnect issues. I will run a few more tweaks and if I cannot get a stable connection RMA before my 30 days runs out.
  • Pros: Easy To Set Up, Fast
  • Cons: Bad Firmware, Unreliable connection
