Good Router, but didn't last

greeman, B&H Photo
5 November 2015
  • Excerpt: I purchased this router in November 2014. It worked fine, range was fine. Thought I had a good router. It almost lasted one year. First I had trouble with my nas going out intermittently, and when it finally quit working at all I figured it out.... I had a dead port on the router.

piece of junk

zahmbee, CNET
11 July 2015
  • Summary: I have no idea why anyone would buy this junk. I got it and it's one of the most disappointing purchases of the year. at the time of purchase the asus customer service informed me that there was no windows 8 support or drivers. geeez. steer clear of this thing. maybe it's good for a mac.
  • Pros: looks nice
  • Cons: no drivers for windows 8

Asus Support is difficult to use

NoSolutions, Walmart
18 January 2014
  • Summary: The Router is easy to set up for basic use. However the quick start manual does not explain how to setup VPN, Print server, guest network. Asus support is limited to FAQ's, chat response is - severe weather has caused a shutdown - that was weeks ago so I really question if they even have a chat...

Asus RT-N66U IEEE 802.11n Wireless Router

ndkien, Overstock
14 January 2014
  • Summary: I bought the Asus RT-N66u router to replace an old and cheap Linksys hoping for better routing and wider coverage. Instead this router did the opposite and I wish I did not purchase it. The router becomes overheated and dropped off connection without warning.

dropped signal

Amazon Customer, Amazon
12 November 2013
  • Summary: Super easy to set up. Great User Interface. After using this for a couple weeks, the wi-fi signal drops every couple minutes. When I say drop, it disappears completely. Then my devices have to re-acquire the signal and get setup again.

Not as good as they say it is

andreipop2001, CNET
24 June 2013
  • Summary: Overall it is an overpriced crap, it is good only if you have 1 or 2 devices top. Better buy something under 20euro, it will work better.
  • Pros: Nice interface
  • Cons: Multiple firmware bugs, network disconnects, every new firmware is saying problems fixed but not true

Nice features with a pretty face, but unreliable.

kfmachinisu, CNET
1 April 2013
  • Summary: My last Asus power supply burned up my Asus motherboard, because of a well-known defect, and now this router will have to be replaced. I power my equipment through surge-protecting UPC's, and it's never abused. I expect my router to last more than a year before it starts misbehaving.
  • Pros: True dual band, with numerous setup options for security, etc. Strong Wi-fi signal throughout my one-story home -- better by far than my previous D-Link router. Sleek shiny appearance. USB slot.
  • Cons: Asus quality control now seems to be lacking. I now need to reboot the router maybe three times a week to keep Internet access working for my WIRED network. The router just suddenly stops functioning, for no apparent reason, during normal browsing.

Not very Mac compatible

WirelessinSeattle, ABT Electronics
25 September 2012
  • Excerpt: This router is #1 on many 'Best Router' lists. However, I found setup to be more than a hassle on my Mac. Sometimes the setup wizard would show and sometimes it wouldn't. When I finally got the networks set up, the 5GHz band was very unreliable. Switching to 2.4GHz didn't help much.
  • Cons: Difficult To Set Up, Unreliable connection
