Summary: I bought the AWUS036H to improve my signal strength to a wireless computer. The computer runs on vista. I have been trying everything to get it to work. I have tried many drivers, nothing works. With some drivers it will not connect at all. With others it looks like it makes a link but when I try to open a browser there is no connection. I have used other USB adapters that have made a connection although sub par.
Summary: The price seems a bit steep, even if it grabs one more bar of signal. However, the tall antenna that came with this kit was worse in performance than the short one. That could be a config issue though, So, I need to do some more reading on this. Overall, a good product.

Summary: This product is wonderful if you are trying to pick up a signal from a long ways away. I ordered it hoping it would allow me to connect to an unsecured network a ways away from my house. I had 1 bar on my computer wireless and could only connect sometimes. With this product I have 4 or 5 bars and blazing fast speeds as well! Great product would recommend for everyone!
Summary: this card plus backtrack 5 linux is a must for any wireless hacker! it without any patches works 500mw with packet injection and monitoring modes 500mw is the US limit so you can surpass that by changing your FCC location/region information (if you have the proper permissions from the FCC or whatever) in iwconfig on linux crack WEP, WPA, WPA2 wireless security and do session hijacking to test the security of your systems network!
Summary: Setup on this item was about as easy as it gets - install the driver, and plug in the Alfa. Voila! I was unable to get wireless in my basement from a computer which was broadcasting upstairs. Not only did this capture the signal, but it got it at 83% strength. It also picked up numerous other signals in the neighborhood. For the performance, you can't beat the price.
Summary: Over the years I've tried a lot of 'cool gizmos' some of which worked, sort of, while others just failed out of the box. I was looking at this antenna as yet another one of those gizmos. We moved some things around in the house and could no longer get a wifi signal where we wanted it. Rather than do a whole lot of logistical restructuring - this antenna allowed us to place the router where it needed to go, and still use the computer where we wanted to use it.
Summary: When I got this item, the box said 5db. They probably sent the wrong box. Anyway, 5db works well. Maybe the item description is misleading. As long as you know that you may get a 5db gain antenna, then it's ok.
Summary: I got this unit as a temporary solution. I could not get my internet connected to my new home for at least 30 days. But I knew a friend in the neighborhood. After speaking with him, he said if I could connect, I could use his wireless. Once I got the unit driver to work, which was a a little tricky with windows 7 64 bit. But if you the type of user that needs 64 bit, you can figure it out. Just download the driver from alpha website.
Summary: THIS PART ONLY APPLYS TO MAC USERS: Be careful. I am running the latest update of Snow Leopard, and this was tricky to instal. First off you will have to download the driver offline, as the mini-disc will not work in your mac. Then it still will not work, I had to find a tutorial online how to change the source code for the driver to get this to work. The software is not that good even when working.
