   While Spiderwick Chronicles didn't turn out to be a pile of trash, it's far from special and doesn't warrant a second glance in just about any situation. If you're reading this with prospects of buying a game for your kids, I'd save your money unless they're huge fans of this franchise, and in that case just go for a rental.    certainly gets its due in this jaunt from developer Stormfront Studios. The ordinary-turns-to-fantasy concept is carried off nicely in the game, including a neat effect where you peer into a special device to see elements from the fantasy world mingling with the real world.    The characters in The Spiderwick Chronicles do their best with their wicked bats, fairy nets, mouse-man friends, and cool-looking house, but they're no match for the entropic forces of fetch quests, bad platforming, and uninspired action. Though the heroes of the movie eventually save their own day from the forces of boredom, they probably won't be able to save yours. Read more

   Finding Sprites will grant you magical abilities such as healing, super speed, or super strength. Catching them with your Sprite Net will initiate a mini-game where you have to "water color" an image of the fairy. This would get tedious were it not for the fact that, once you catch enough of a certain kind, you are freed from the need to paint their portrait. Read more
