The Sims like you've Never Seen it Before

  • Conclusion: In closing, The Sims 2: Castaway is a unique approach to the series and is one of the more pleasant simulations to have come out this year. With plenty of new tasks to accomplish, people to find, and lands to explore, there is little more you could ask for in terms of content. Sure the visuals could have been better and there are a few gameplay kinks that could've been worked out, but for a Sims fan, it is right on target.

The Sims 2: Castaway

Strategy Informer

  • Conclusion: There are a number of inconsistencies and random, dubious elements to the desert island setting, but in all honesty such pedantry really isn’t an issue when boiling Castaway down to its raw ingredients which, ultimately, are well-rounded, escapist and nonthreatening fun. And although it doesn’t necessarily make use of the dynamic nature of the Wii’s control system, it feels surprisingly refreshing to play a “normal” game on Nintendo’s new machine, and proves not only...

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: As a budget-release expansion pack, Sims 2: Castaway may have worked. As a full-price console game, it's an insult to the millions of Sims fans across the globe. Will Wright must be turning in his grave. Not that he's dead. But it's bad enough it may well kill him if he plays it.

  • Conclusion: uncomplicated; trying to find them in any type of easily navigated menu when they are needed isn’t. The menu system leaves a lot to be desired, especially with the amount of micromanaging that’s needed, a la every Sims game. Yes, the usual Sims micromanagement gameplay (hunger, hygiene, fun, comfort, social, and the like which need to be addressed constantly) is right at the forefront of The Sims 2 Castaway, and although that’s what should be expected, it also gets in...

  • Excerpt: It has been a few years since I last played The Sims. Back then it was about creating a neighbourhood of Sims and attempting to maintain some sanity in that crazy world. After a dozen expansions and reinventions The Sims has undergone another transformation. In The Sims 2: Castaway you throw away to shackles of buying land, building a house and keeping a job.

  • Conclusion: By offering new graphics, new sounds, new music, and a new way to play The Sims, Castaway offers a lively way to enjoy the series and those little gibberish-speaking characters that have made such a name for themselves--as long as you have enough patience to spend a good chunk of time hunting and gathering.
  • Pros: Open-ended gameplay offers leisurely experience, Decent variety of different tasks to accomplish, All-new graphics and sound, Monkey butlers.
  • Cons: You do have to spend a good chunk of time gathering resources.
