Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 5: Rise of the Pirate God
7 May 2010
Excerpt: Guybrush Threepwood is dead. Long live Guybrush Threepwood! Big surprise! LeChuck was evil all along. Who knew? At the end of The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood , our hero literally got what was coming to him: death. Dead and buried, he's still not done, as there's still one episode left in the Tales of Monkey Island series, The Rise of the Pirate God .
Pros: Great closer for the series, Ties in nicely for a potential second series, Well-contained story and puzzles, Technical problems on Wiiware
Tales of Monkey Island: Rise of the Pirate God Review
7 March 2010
Conclusion: I’ve covered the gameplay mechanics in the previous episode reviews, so I’ll close with this: If you’ve made it this far into the series (and I hope you have), Rise of the Pirate Gods will give you grand finale you’ve been looking for. The story, graphics, and audio have all grown up, the stakes are bigger, and the menace is much more imposing. You’ll find plenty of humor here, no doubt, with the afterlife being chock full of shady characters, as expected.
Summary: If you haven’t picked it up from my reviews of the previous chapters, I absolutely loved playing through the entire Tales of Monkey Island . The ending is wonderfully fulfilling and makes all of that hard-spent time worth the effort. Right from the beginning, the story is great and things are fun to play; you just can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next.
