  • Conclusion: No game is “perfect.”  Every game has at least minor flaws, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 has a couple, but they are so negligible that they feel like nitpicking.  On the other hand, it’s clear that Nintendo did everything possible to tweak, enhance, and improve this game over its predecessor, all while trying to create an experience that was at once familiar and fresh.  Additions like Yoshi, Rock Mario, and green stars are exemplars of that effort.

These little stars of mine, I'm gonna let them shine.

  • Conclusion: Sometimes I wonder how Mario keeps his ego in check. He's arguably the world's most famous mascot, has starred in over 200 games over the years, and regularly saves a beautiful princess from hordes of angry turtles, moles, bullets, mushrooms, plants, and other animate objects. It's a wonder he stays so humble that the only words he ever speaks are the occasional “Yes!” and “Yahoo!”. Probably because his day job is still fixing toilets.
  • Pros: Platforming formula is still gold, Excellent Wii visuals, Entrancing soundtrack, A whole lotta stars to collect, Yoshi!
  • Cons: Doesn't do anything new, Bland bosses

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Game Boyz
21 June 2010
  • Excerpt: Just over a week or so ago I had the chance to sit in and play Super Mario Galaxy 2 at Nintendo Canada’s headquarters. I must admit I did not play much of the first game and the new one was not on my radar, that was before playing it of course. After some playtime I quickly remembered the good old days of Mario gaming, there is no timeline, harsh violence, or weaponry, just solid gaming.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Review

  • Excerpt: It’s unfortunate that the Wii I worked so hard to find at launch sits mostly unplayed for periods of time, but once in a while something comes out that makes this system shine. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is one of these games. The true sequel to Mario’s first Wii outing is one of those titles that comes along once in a blue moon and thrusts the Wii to the forefront of my console list, pushing aside new titles like Red Dead Redemption with ease.

  • Conclusion: Normally, you know what you're going to say as closing remarks when reviewing a video game, but all I can say is that it is an awesome experience that is extremely unique. While it may be a sequel, it takes one of the best games of all time and vastly improves what matters most. It will throw challenge after challenge at you, and hardly ever will you go to the next stage and think, “I've already done this a hundred times over,” as it constantly innovates upon itself.

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Game Over Online
12 June 2010
  • Excerpt: Three years ago, Mario hit the Wii with a remarkable 3D entry that brought a ton of innovation to the series through its spherical level designs that fit the galaxy moniker well. It also introduced new items like star bits that acted as both currency and a projectile attack. Despite some awkward camera issues and a clunky over world, the game still raised the bar for 3D platformers not just for Wii, but for all of gaming. Now, its successor has taken that crown.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 UK Review

IGN
10 June 2010
  • Conclusion: Super Mario Galaxy 2 is simply the ultimate refinement of Nintendo's already masterful control of the genre; it's lovingly crafted, sumptuously presented and an absolute, unmitigated joy to play. It's dazzling in its breadth of ideas and wealth of distractions, and it all comes together into an unmissable package - and incontestable classic - that's practically the embodiment of pure, unadulterated fun.

  • Excerpt: , Nintendo uncharacteristically cranked out a sequel to the madly popular original. While fans are typically only treated to one Mario game per life cycle of their recent mainstream consoles, Wii owners now have three to choose from. In Super Mario Galaxy 2, you are going to find a fairly identical approach to Marios world as the previous title, yet with new power-ups and other fun surprises.
