Summer Athletics Review

VideoGamer.com
19 July 2009
  • Excerpt: With SEGA having focussed on next generation consoles with its officially licensed realistic Olympic Games title, Wii owners currently have to make do with the also officially licensed, but less than realistic Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. Summer Athletics from dtp entertainment looks to fill that void on the Wii, offering a proper Olympic-like experience but without the official license.

Summer Athletics: The Ultimate Challenge Review

Cheat Code Central
10 July 2009
  • Conclusion: Rounding out the package is a decent multiplayer mode that allows you to compete with up to three other players locally. But frankly, Summer Athletics wouldn't even really be that good of a "party game" thanks to its rather questionable control scheme. Progressing through the three different stages of the game, which culminate with the Summer Athletics (the non-licensed Olympics), is a fairly boring task and is often too frustrating to spend much time with.

Summer Athletics: The Ultimate Challenge

The Gamers Temple
23 May 2009
  • Excerpt: By Brad Russell Summer Athletics is a serviceable medium through which you can live out some of your Olympic aspirations. As you may know, the summer games ended not too long ago, and if you watched them like I did, you may be slightly interested in seeing what this game has to offer. Sadly, women's beach volleyball and basketball are noticeably absent.

Summer Athletics

Video Game Generation
29 September 2008
  • Summary: Summer Athletics: The Ultimate Challenge is a pathetically obvious attempt to cash in on the Summer Olympics. Unfortunately, what you actually get is the Iceland of the Summer Olympics. You know they’ve probably tried their best, but they’re just never going to score a win – they’re just glad to be there! Poor design, no quality control, and crap development. And they’re charging how much for this? Damn right it’s a Conspiracy!
  • Pros: Um…
  • Cons: Several events end with your personage winding up tangled with the cord between the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk. If I wanted to be tied up, I’d get a member of the opposite sex to do it., Few if any of the events most folks watch the Summer Olympics for., I know I mentioned this earlier, but it was so glaringly hard to believe, I must repeat myself here. Note to prospective gamers: the wild, awkward motions you’re expected to perform at high speeds is, extremely, likel...

  • Excerpt: The Beijing Olympics are over now but as always, watching them was an amazing way for couch potatoes everywhere to vicariously experience the thrill of being a world-class athlete. I mean, it's the only way it'll ever happen, right, since the most exercise us video game fans get is running across the Barrens in World of Warcraft? Now we have four more years to wait until the next Olympics—four more years before continuing our couch-side pursuit of gold medal glory!

Summer Athletics 2009

Tom's Games
17 March 2014
