Summary: I bought this game on a whim to fill my days while I had a couple days free of work. I'm far from an avid gamer but I know my way around video games. I bought this game as a cheaper alternative to MarioKart, as many of the reviews deemed this a close competitor. I beg to differ. I should start with the positives. Overall this is an enjoyable game, and some of the levels are fantastically creative and well done.
Summary: When you think of gimmick racing games that uses cartoony characters, you immediately think of Mario Kart. While that franchise has made long lasting games, It can be a bit redundant to play as characters in the Mario family. Fortunately, Sega has created a similar genre racing game that takes all its iconic characters from Sega lore and produces a rather enjoyable experience. The controls are easy to pick up, and the music's nice as well.
Excerpt: Compared to Mario Kart in 4-player mode Sonic is far behind: the frame rate is very low, sometimes the road is difficult to separate from rest of the track and there's no support for basic tournaments - you have to choose different track after each race, even a randomizer would be appreciated.
