Sonic and the Black Knight

Sonic and the Black Knight is a title within the Sonic the Hedgehog series, released on Wii as the second entry in the Sonic Storybook series, following on from Sonic and the Secret Rings. Set in the world of King Arthur, the game combines Sonic's trademark speed with a new swordfighting system, making use of the Wii Remote's motion-sensing functionality. The game has an ESRB: E10+ / CERO: A / PEGI: 12+ rating.

Features

Sonic and the Black Knight incorporate an element of swordplay, along with the traditional Sonic platforming and speed that sets this game apart from its predecessors. Swordplay is implemented through the Wii Remote. Sonic's movement will be controlled with the analog stick as he will be on a set course. Gameplay will mainly be 3D, but occasionally the camera will shift to a side-scrolling perspective for traditional 2D gameplay. The game features civilians that the player can harm and some that Sonic can interact with; and the actions of the player and deeds will be judged at the end of each stage, affecting the player's “knight ranking” accordingly. Some stages requires the player to relinquish 20 rings to civilians in order to win each stage, whilst other will not (Sonic will be awarded an item instead). There will be about 200 items in the game, some of which can be gained by opening treasure chests in the stages. Sonic's “ID points” can be used to identify any items collected during a stage. Rarer items will cost more ID points than others. An online mode will allow treasures to be traded between registered friends. The game changes the traditional level items, like springs and speed pads, into “fairies”, that come in varying colors; Yellow elements will be used as a group of 5 rings, and Blue fairies will be used as speed boosts and springs, and Red will be used to fill the “Soul gauge”. This gauge is filled by defeating enemies and collecting Red Fairies, and is used to unleash lock-on attacks, Soul Surge. An improved skill system from Sonic and the Secret Rings is also featured. The game also features 3 character styles to chose from, with only the knight style available at the beginning of the game, and Paladin and Cavalier styles unlocked later in the game. Once a certain point in the story is reached, characters like Knuckles, Shadow and Blaze will be playable.
