Summary: In the late 1990s, US arcades were exploding with wacky arcade games in an attempt to draw back the crowds of years past. Sega Bass Fishing, with its big screen and clunky fishing controller, was right at home next to the skateboarding simulations and safari driving games. Like the Dreamcast port before it, the new Wii version brings all the flashy silliness of the old arcade to your living room.
Pros: Fish behave realistically, The Wii Remote and Nunchuk work well as a rod and reel
Cons: Has about as much depth as the average arcade game, Graphics look old and plain; the water effects are pitiful, No multiplayer or online support
Conclusion: Talk about a blast from the past. SEGA Bass Fishing harkens back to the days of the Dreamcast and when arcades were still clinging to life. This Wii port barely changes the original formula which turns out to be unfortunate in regards to the presentation. While the game plays decently enough and the controls are generally responsive, It simply looks and sounds like it crawled out of the Box of Games that Time Forgot in my basement.
Excerpt: Sure, fishing can arguably be deemed "boring," or "unfulfilling" by some folks, but then again, those who never played Sega's long-time running arcade fishing franchise would say that. Thanks to the Wii's versatile remote and nunchuk, the popular series receives a breath of fresh air after nearly eight years. But is wrangling a record-breaking bass on the Wii worth the effort, or does this version sink to the bottom?
Conclusion: If fishing in your underpants is your idea of a cool way to kill some time, or you’re just trying to get your dad into playing the Wii you could do a lot worse than Sega Bass Fishing. Otherwise I’d kiss this one and throw it back.
Pros: Catching a big fish feels like an accomplishment.
Cons: This is a Dreamcast game emulated on the Wii.
Excerpt: coz I am John the Fisherman… Oh Dreamcast, how I miss you. One of the greatest consoles ever. Taken while in its prime (yeah, I know they are still producing games in Japan, but I’m trying to paint a picture here!). I remember games such as Sega Bass Fishing, with its awesome fishing rod controller, where have all the good times gone? What is that being delivered by a whistling postie. Sega Bass Fishing, for the Wii.
Pros: Its a direct port of the Dreamcast classic, addictive gameplay, almost makes fishing seem cool!
Cons: graphics and voice acting seem dated now, limited value for money.
