Prince of Persia: Rival Swords

The Prince of Persia: Rival Swords action/adventure video game from Ubisoft was released on April 2007 for the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) and the Nintendo Wii gaming platforms. Rival Swords is a direct port of the Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones released in 2005. Practically the same game, Rival Swords differs only in its toned-down violence and support for the motion-sensing Wii Remote and Nunchuck. With its reduced violent content, Rival Swords has been rated by the ESRB as a T (Teen 13+) from Two Thrones’ M (Mature 17+).

Story

Rival Swords places the player after the second ending of the Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and is the conclusion to the Sands of Time trilogy. The Prince returns to the city of Babylon only to find it in ruins because of war. He also later discovers that the Sands of Time have affected him and given rise to an evil split personality—the Dark Prince.

Gameplay

With a protagonist having a split personality, the game gives the player two unique characters to play with. The prince and his evil alter ego each have their own personalities and fighting styles.

Rival Swords has a free-form fighting system that allows the player to choose how to take down his enemies. The player can strike form afar, use stealth or utilize the Speed Kill. Time can also be manipulated in the game, with the Prince slowing down or going back in time.

Most of the Prince’s movements are controlled using buttons while the motion-sensing technology of the Wii comes in with combat actions and some context-sensitive maneuvers. There are also a number of movement combinations that correspond to a specific combat move that the player can master.
